College Prowler Take
If you are an athlete, a sports fan, or both, UNC is your paradise. Everyone is familiar with UNC’s storied basketball program, and many even link a direct correlation to the color powder blue and our basketball team. Football, men and women’s basketball, and soccer are three of the more competitive and popular varsity sports at UNC. Other varsity teams include baseball, crew, lacrosse, rugby, and swimming. All varsity sports are competitive, and walking on to any at UNC is a long-shot because of the crop of talent that is shipped into UNC every year. It is not uncommon to have a class with one of your favorite school athletes. However, if you don’t make the team, or if you’re simply not interested in the varsity level, you can join a club or intramural sport. These provide a high degree of competition without the time commitment and pressure that varsity sports demand. Club sports require tryouts, and both club and intramural have tournaments on and off campus. Overall, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a school with more pride and respect for its athletics than UNC.

Varsity sports are everything...
Varsity sports are everything here, especially basketball. Even when our teams aren’t playing the best, the games are packed with students and alumni who cheer until the end. A lot of people play club sports around here. If there is a sport you want to play, and it’s not available, just ask around, and I’m sure there is someone out there who will want to play it with you so you can start your own club sport. |

Sports are a big deal at UNC. We are known nationally for our all-around sport programs. I swam varsity and played IM and club sports, which is a great way to meet people. We have all-girl, all-guy, and coed leagues for everything from soccer to water skiing and horseback riding. Participating in athletics was one of my most enjoyable experiences here. |

Sports are huge here! I’m sure you know about our basketball dynasty already. Football and soccer are big. Our women’s team has won something like 16 championships since women’s soccer was introduced by the NCAA. We usually finish in the top five in the Sears Cup standings (best overall Division I sports program, based on points earned in every sport). IM sports are also big, and many sports are offered. |

Athletics is a very big deal at Carolina because there is so much tradition involved. Of course, varsity sports are a big deal, but there are many levels of athletics that are available to everyone. Participating is a great way to get involved and meet people with similar interests. I met my boyfriend through coed volleyball intramurals. |

Varsity sports on campus are big, especially men’s football and basketball. Trying to get tickets to the games is almost impossible, even if you camp out! |

Getting Tickets
A student ID allows you access to most varsity sport games. However, basketball is a little more intense. You must enter an online lottery process in order to get tickets. If you are chosen, you receive an e-mail a few days before the game with your ticket. If you don’t receive a ticket, you are able to wait in a stand-by line the day of the game. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get in.
