College Prowler Take
Just about every student agrees that all UNC dining options are a step above high school cafeteria food. Also, UNC’s dining halls have fast food options, and the cafeterias are an all-you-can-eat buffet. Carolina’s dining halls have a sushi bar, grill, pasta, deli, pizza, a vegetarian corner, and soul food. Every night there is a different specialty: Monday could be salsa theme night, Tuesday could be dessert night, Wednesday could be a tribute to Italy with different dishes. Lenoir is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week, and brunch and dinner on the weekend. Students are given the option of constructing their own meal plan. This can be quite an advantage for both students who cook for themselves on a regular basis and students who have a hard time boiling water. If you only plan to eat in the cafeteria a couple times a month, breakfast is $6.50, lunch is $7.25, and dinner is $7.95. Lenoir Mainstreet offers other options including Subway, Chick-fil-A, Burger King, and many other fast food stands. They accept cash or Flex Dollars that allow students to purchase food anywhere on campus. Just be prepared for long lines during lunch at Lenoir and in the morning at the coffee shops. With all the options available for UNC students, the Freshman 15 can very easily turn into the Freshman 30 if you’re not careful.

I never took part in the meal...
I never took part in the meal plans. It seems like a good deal at first, but then you realize you would much rather eat elsewhere in the area rather than going to a dining hall everyday. In the end you are left with massive amounts of unused meals. Just budget your money well and eat at home or in the dorm half the time and go out the rest. Be sure to check out Franklin Street and Carrboro for good food that's not too pricey. Breadman's & Elmo's are a must!

The cafés are pretty good but get boring, and they can be really expensive. I suggest not getting a meal plan if you do not eat that much and find yourself eating out a lot during freshman year.

The food is okay, but the dining halls are crowded during key eating times. Still, there are lots of options, and most are fairly convenient. Also, Franklin Street, which is home to various restaurants, is only five minutes' walking distance from the main part of campus.

The food on campus is decent. I feel that it is easy to get tired of eating the same food over and over, no matter where you are. The staff at the dining halls is very well constructed, and they offer a variety of options to choose from. Lots of people eat at the dining halls, as well as at a couple of restaurants that are located within the bottom of one of the dining halls. Alpine Bagel, which is located in the Student Union, is also a big spot where a lot of students can go to eat at all times of the day and night.

The food on campus at UNC is pretty good. It certainly tastes better than some of the other dining hall food at other schools I have come in contact with. The good spots on campus are Top of Lenior, Lenoir Mainstreet, and Tar Heel Café. |

In order to be environmentally conscious, Carolina Dining Services have implemented numerous initiatives. To name a few, trayless initiatives to save water, food waste and electricity, recycling bins in cafeterias, composting program, and recyclable napkins.
