Comparable Schools' Diversity Grades:
College Prowler Take
Many groups at UNC start their own cultural clubs, which are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about a certain culture. Every year, these clubs come together at MASALA, a cultural show to present different facets of their culture. The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History supports the black community by inviting guest speakers to campus and showing documentary movies. Carolina has enrolled students from all 50 states and over 100 countries. At a campus as diverse as Carolina’s, students are bound to experience, accept, and appreciate other cultures and backgrounds. UNC is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse campuses in the nation. African American, Asian American, Native American, and Hispanic student enrollment are all currently at an all-time high at UNC. Therefore, even if UNC isn’t as diverse as some schools, at least we’re moving in the right direction.

The diversity comes in waves. Economically, the campus has most groups but there are a lot of advantaged people. Politically, sexually, ideologically, the campus varies in every way.

There is a wide variety of students, but most are right-wing Christians will little else but Jesus and abstinence on their minds. There is the issue of racism ever since a slur was written on the free expression tunnel regarding our new president. But you can find all types of cliques if you look hard enough. Class is the worst place to label people; I advise going to the bars, clubs, and parties to see what people are really like.
