Many diverse people are accepted. A Hispanic group has made great strides in being accepted and accepting the rest of the college. The LGBT community is strong, with many supporters. Ethnic and racial diversity is accepted and brought in as a factor to be proud of. Religion is not as diverse, with many students being Christian or Catholic. For those who are not, they are not accepted.

If someone were to want financial aid, they should look elsewhere. For people with great academic standing or musical talent, there are scholarships available if they are done in the correct manner. A music scholarship can be obtained through being a music student and an academic scholarship can be done only through joining honors. If an individual decides not to be part of the honors program, a scholarship is still available, but not as attainable or with as much financial capabilities.

I could not imagine having a worse experience at college. Everyone I met had a hidden agenda and was not actually friendly. The experiences I enjoyed are completely tinted by how terrible my experience was. This school is unique by completely ostracizing others, academically and socially. As soon as an individual is not part of an organization or group, they are left behind. I know of many who transferred because their experience was so terrible and now prosper at other schools. I cannot wait to transfer, to be in a more productive and accepting environment. Professors had no consideration to my hospitalizations, organizations were run in the most unproductive and corrupt manner, and once a person in a specific major or school did not like you, neither did anyone else. It is very much like high school where so many people know about each other, despite the large size of students enrolled. I would not choose this school and I wish I would have chosen the school I am going to now earlier.

The meal plans have recently changed and work well. There is a variety of food everywhere on campus, between the two dining halls and other places of purchasing food. It is all very convenient for a student.

There are many houses and apartment buildings located close off campus that allows students the freedom to walk to all of their classes and on to campus. Places of residence are mostly affordable with parking and safety measures. All landlords spoken of are wonderful to the tenants.

There is many restaurants close to campus, with all of them being very different in their varieties. Almost any type of food can be found nearby and the prices are generally reasonable.

The fraternity and sorority life on campus is wonderful. There is small if any competition between the fraternities and sororities, it is more of a community. On campus these individuals assist in every way that they can and are very present. It is not urged to join one, but if interested, many of these individuals are ready to advertise!

Iowa has difficulties with the extremes of the weather in the first place, but this is the second windiest campus in America. It is always cold and with the addition of the wind, it is even colder. The summer is stifling hot and with no air conditioning in the dorms, many people suffered heat stroke this year.

Health & Safety:
This campus is very safe because of the community that it has in the students. Many people are always around and there to help if needed. Police are always there for students, with courtesy rides and in emergency situations.

The dorms are a standard place to live for usually the first two years. When signing up for housing, it is highly recommended to agree to the two year contract. While the price of housing will stay the same, it is not a good option if the dorms are not where someone may intend to live after the first year of experiencing it. The two-year plan is impossible to get out of and once someone is to get out of it, a heavy fine is imposed. They are extremely loud and not conductive to a study or sleeping environment, not even the residence assistants are strict upon this. It is convenient to live on campus, but there are so many housing options off of campus it may seem odd to continue living there.

For those students who enjoy to have a party all of the time, the University of Northern Iowa may not be the best school. There is a lot of partying that happens though and bars are fairly lenient on who can get let in. The dorms are usually very loud and difficult to sleep or study in. Social lives can thrive or could also unfortunately fail in this type of environment.

College students are welcomed in a large manner off campus. While there is not much to do, the best can be made out of it.
College Sophomore 2013-12-04T04:42:49Z
There is no way to get around campus other than walking. The parking lots are far away, making it difficult to have a car at this school. If transportation is wanted to get around the surrounding area, a car is needed. Public transportation is almost obsolete and taxis are extremely expensive.

There are many opportunities in the Cedar Valley and many professors that are dedicated to helping the students succeed.

Some professors are absolutely wonderful, while others are worse than I could ever imagine. While the faculty is great, the best professors on tenure will not be staying much longer. The professors without tenure that I have come across do not deserve it. The curriculum is very easy and not challenging at all. While this may be a benefit for many people who enjoy to have more free time, it was annoying for me when I was paying to go to school here. Registration is very simple and easy. The workload is so pathetic, it is possible to take thirty credits of anything and not be weighed down at all. When studying, there are some very nice places to do so though.

The good options are great but it gets old after awhile

I got many scholarships because of my ethnic background

The nightlife can be a hit or miss, I have been to fun parties but at the same time I have been to not so fun parties. The Hill is close to campus and has a handful of bars. Mainstreet is a few miles away and has bars there too.

All the buildings are pretty new, there are a lot of events (lectures and talks) that go on and there are a lot of places to study.

I haven't used that system yet but I am sure i will soon.

Cedar Falls is a pretty average Iowa town, not a lot of different than other places.
College Junior 2013-11-15T07:25:57Z
From what I have tried and saw there are a lot of food places to go eat in Cedar Falls.
College Junior 2013-11-15T07:25:01Z
It seems like mainly students smoke weed and not really anything else.
College Junior 2013-11-15T07:24:07Z
There are a lot of different types of people, I have been able to get to know International students and students from different parts of the world.
College Junior 2013-11-15T07:22:28Z
I have never had to look for off-campus housing but from what I have heard and saw there are a lot of places and not too bad of cost.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
