Overall Experience
“Wonderful,” “amazing,” “special,” “family”—these are the most common words that students use to describe their times at Notre Dame. The University has a unique atmosphere that is embraced by many; the campus is basically self-contained, the dorms are all very close-knit, and there are truly strong connections between students. While the weather may test your survival skills and the administration may try your patience, the Notre Dame experience is unlike any other you’ll ever have. The school’s tradition and history create an environment where you’ll feel welcomed the moment you step foot on campus. Notre Dame is not an easy school, and it’s important to remember that academics are huge. Above all else, you need to be willing to study and focus, or you’re not going to make it through the University’s workload. Students here are universally dedicated to their studies, and campus life reflects it. This is not a party school. Students may find themselves frustrated by the value system or the lack of outside activities. The best recommendation for Notre Dame is to visit and check out campus life firsthand. Often, the atmosphere alone is enough to sway your feelings one way or the other.
