College Prowler Take
If you ever happen to watch a Notre Dame football game, you’ll find the same advertisements being flashed between quarters: a snowy-bearded professor with a hearty laugh and rosy cheeks gently gives his students a pat on the back; a balding little man happily prances around before wide-eyed eager young minds as he teaches chemistry. Well, this just might be one of those rare instances where advertisers aren’t lying to you. Although some students occasionally encounter that one, bloodthirsty, Attila-the-Hun professor who slashes at them with a red pen, this is relatively rare. Most students have found their professors to be enthusiastic, accessible, and approachable. Even though they have all had some boring classes, the majority agrees that the classes required for their majors are more enjoyable and easy to praise. The positive student quotes lead to high marks for Notre Dame academics. While there may be some professors who speak different languages or can’t relate to their students, and there may be classes so boring that everyone’s eyelids lose the battle with gravity, students are impressed with most of their classes. Notre Dame promises many academic hurdles, but the various sources of academic support—ranging from professors to TAs to University-sponsored tutoring programs—provide many hands to help students get through each semester.

I really like all the teachers...
I really like all the teachers I’ve had. They are very personable, and you can talk to them. They’re also very accessible, which is great if you have last-minute questions or problems. For the most part, the professors love what they’re doing, and they make classes interesting. |

So far I've had a really great mix...
So far I've had a really great mix of teachers and class sizes: everything from huge lectures to small, really intimate seminar classes. Notre Dame is second in the nation for business so I'm really looking forward to taking some more business classes and working towards my degree.

The classes start out pretty big...
The classes start out pretty big freshmen year.. and the professors are really hit or miss here. Sometime's you'll have a grad student or foreign guy teaching. However, it's awesome after freshmen year. Notre Dame really goes out of their way to attract professors from all walks of life. I've had a great experience so far.

It’s just like anywhere else—there...
It’s just like anywhere else—there are going to be great professors, and there are going to be some who aren’t so hot. The thing is here, the good ones really outnumber the bad. |

Did You Know? The establishment of an archive of student papers in Hesburg Library has been approved by the ND administration and is currently under construction. This archive would include papers that professors feel are exceptional—they would be available as examples to other students.
