College Prowler Take
In a darkened corner of Notre Dame’s dining halls lurks a small section filled with the odor of mystery ground meat, fake taco shells, melted cheese, shredded lettuce and tomatoes—the Mexican food section. It seems that not even this shadowy area of campus dining is lacking in student praise. Notre Dame students are very fond of their dining halls, particularly South, because of the variety of foods that they are able to find. Mexican, Chinese, Italian, and American food are just some of the choices available. And, while some students grow tired of the food selections in the dining halls, they find the small on-campus chain restaurants an equally appetizing “Plan B.” Although you may be able to predict the week’s main food choices after a while, the contrasting food sections found in both North and South Dining Halls grant students the freedom of exploring their culinary creativity. Combined with the generous meal plans, which range from 14 to 21 meals per week, meal points can be used at campus restaurants, in vending machines, and for “Grab-N-Go” sack meals. The variety of food at the dining halls gives Notre Dame a grade that most cafeteria lunch-ladies can only dream about.

The food on campus is not bad at all; it’s much better than many other schools I’ve visited. The dining halls offer a wide variety of foods. In each dining hall, there is a Mexican section, a cook-out section, a vegetarian section, a deli, a stir-fry section, a home-cooking section and a panini section. There’s also a salad bar with fresh bread and soups! This may sound a little crazy, but some parents want to eat in the dining hall when they visit instead of going out to a restaurant. |

I think the dining hall food is a lot better than other schools. I got lucky; my dorm is right by South Dining Hall, which is a lot better than North, in my opinion. |

The dining halls, especially South, are really yummy compared to other places I’ve been. Also, Reckers is wonderful anytime of day, and if you’re in the vicinity, the restaurant on the first floor of Grace Hall is good, too. |

Basically, the dining halls are pretty good, offering wide varieties of food from Italian, Chinese, and Mexican, to grilled food, a salad bar, desserts, breads, etc. South Dining Hall is ranked number two in the nation. |
