Although the majority of students who attend Notre Dame aren’t Irish, by two or three in the morning the influence of Natty Light and other choice beverages will give most students a red face and a slur so thick it sounds like an authentic Gaelic accent. The student consensus is that campus parties are the way to go during your first year. Once they lose their appeal—as they certainly will—parties at apartment complexes and student houses take preference. The club scene is relatively weak, leaving students to choose from a limited variety of bars.

At Notre Dame, students study hard and party hard. The allowance of alcohol in student rooms enables students to make any night a party night. However, the relatively small number of bars combined with the lack of a good club scene is a drawback of Notre Dame nightlife. Overall, the party scene here is the same as most places—there are plenty of good times available if you know where to go. And students advise knowing where to go. A few years ago, there were rumors of a group of freshmen who, looking quite pimped out, wandered into their first off-campus party—it turned out to be a high-school party! Oh, the horror! Yes, I’d say that knowing where to go is a definite plus around here.

Not Too Bad

The bars around campus are pretty fun, and if you have an ID you can get into a number of them. As a freshman, there are some bars that will not let you in just because you look young, but if you ask around you can easily find the underage ones. South Bend police are not very nice however, and they do raid the bars from time to time. As for clubs the only popular one is very hard to get into if under 21. Because there are no frats, the party scene is a little different, with most freshmen partying in the dorms. Off campus parties are much like those at other schools. Notre Dame has a different system than most schools, but if you know the right people you can always find a party Wed - Sat.

Not Crazy, but Not Bad

The school is very lax about drinking as long as you stay in a room, and dorm parties are a decent distraction from studying. There are many taxies available to go to the off campus parties, which are as wild as any other school. Also, parietals are not in effect off campus, so the fun doesn't have to end at 2

f you’re not 21, there are always dorm parties and off-campus house parties to go to. For those who are not too fond of drinking, the Student Union Board usually sponsors weekend movies, and there is an alcohol-free group called Flip Side that has weekly events.
