College Prowler Take
Most students at the University of Oklahoma agree that the professors are a great addition to a strong academic program. Many are truly concerned with their students’ success and possess a passion for their subject matter that can be felt through their daily lectures. Depending on the major, students have said professors are more apt to act in different manners. For example, a drama teacher will choose to present the material differently than one in the College of Engineering. However, there are exceptions, and finding humanity in all has not always been the case for some OU students. All professors are required to allocate a certain amount of their weekly time to office hours. This is a time specified on the syllabus where the professor must be in his or her office to meet with students for extra help, questions, or grade information. OU uses the “Pick a Prof” Web site to aid students in selecting their courses and professors. Students can read feedback from former students and see grade distributions in certain classes. Word of mouth is also a way to become familiar with professors and courses. Most students are more than happy to share their past experiences—both good and bad.

My teachers vary with each class. The majority uses creative ways to teach and relay the info to the class. Other teachers have been really boring and just read their notes that are on the overhead. |

I enjoy almost all of my teachers. They have, so far, all cared a great deal about my progress in class. However, you do have to take the steps to make sure the teacher knows that you care. |

Teachers are amazing. It depends on the major you go into, but I have enjoyed most of my teachers and classes. |

The student to faculty ratio at OU...
The student to faculty ratio at OU is somewhere in the neighborhood of 15:1, I think. The average class size is under 50 students. That’s not to say that you won’t have some big classes early on, but the further you get into your major, the smaller the classes. Every professor that I have had has been readily available during office hours and open to appointment times to discuss anything you want. Also, there are a number of free tutors on campus and even more that you can hire. |

All of my professors have been extremely knowledgeable about what they‘re teaching. A few of them haven’t been my favorites, but I’ve really enjoyed the classes. |
