Overall, the dorms at OU hardly resemble the Ritz-Carlton, but they are comfortable and decent places to live. Most dorms give you the options of a shared bathroom between four students of the same sex and bunked or regular beds. Here is some advice on the bed situation: when given the choice of bunk beds or regular beds, it is tempting to choose the first because of all the extra space you will have in your room. Now let’s get real, it’s a dorm room, what are you planning to do in there, run sprints? Take it from someone who knows; it is completely uncomfortable for someone to crawl up into the ceiling to sleep, unless you are five years old. Also, it’s especially taxing to get up there after a night of drinking, and equally as hard to make it to class the next morning—skipping class is a lot more tempting when you’re suspended 10 feet in the air. In any case, don’t stress out about the dorms. They are definitely livable for a year, and some of the best times of your college life will take place within their walls. Although they are not terribly luxurious, they are actually pretty comfortable. When else in your life can you walk out of your room and find hundreds of people going through many of the exact same things you are?

I live in Traditions Square-West and they are pretty decent apartments, but my roommates are not very friendly. There is a swimming pool, putting course, pool table, basketball court, volleyball court, computer lab, and gym (really small). So, there is plenty to do at the apartments.

Walker, Couch, and Adams are three main towers—they are all nice. The other two are not as nice and a little farther away. |

I loved the dorms. I don’t think people who live off campus their first semester get involved and meet people. I met so many people by living in the dorms. And they’re coed! |

The dorms are old, but I definitely think they are livable. I lived in Couch, and it was just fine. Walker and Adams are cool, but Cate is pretty ghetto. Get your contract in as fast as you can so you’ll have a better chance of not living there. You can always suggest a room change. |
