Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Overall, the dorms at OU hardly resemble the Ritz-Carlton, but they are comfortable and decent places to live. Most dorms give you the options of a shared bathroom between four students of the same sex and bunked or regular beds. Here is some advice on the bed situation: when given the choice of bunk beds or regular beds, it is tempting to choose the first because of all the extra space you will have in your room. Now let’s get real, it’s a dorm room, what are you planning to do in there, run sprints? Take it from someone who knows; it is completely uncomfortable for someone to crawl up into the ceiling to sleep, unless you are five years old. Also, it’s especially taxing to get up there after a night of drinking, and equally as hard to make it to class the next morning—skipping class is a lot more tempting when you’re suspended 10 feet in the air.

In any case, don’t stress out about the dorms. They are definitely livable for a year, and some of the best times of your college life will take place within their walls. Although they are not terribly luxurious, they are actually pretty comfortable. When else in your life can you walk out of your room and find hundreds of people going through many of the exact same things you are?

Campus Life

The dorms are an ok place for your freshman year. Would I live there again? Absolutely not. With the dorms it depends on the day, it can be really loud or dead quiet. The weekends are typically loud at all hours with drunk Greeks pounding on doors and attempting to fight each other in your hallway. They yell and throw s*** back and forth, its really quite pathetic. But don't worry you learn to sleep through it. The rooms are small, the only good thing is in the Towers you share a bathroom with your neighbor. They charge way too much for what it is worth though. Walking around campus you get bombarded with Sorority/Fraternity shirts and some of them walk around like they own the school, like we're still in high school or something. Others are pretty cool, its just like with every other group, some good & some bad. Don't expect to party your freshman year if your not in a fraternity as that is what freshman year consists of. The Greeks at OU aren't cool like at other universities and let you party regardless, here if your not Greek your not getting in unless you are really good friends with someone.

International Is the Way to Go

International dorms on campus are great, you meet great American friends that are diverse, you make lifelong international companions, and because of this international interest, everyone kind of bands together and we become like a community of friends, family, and rival those who call each other brothers and sisters through costly and dramatic frats and sororities

Suite Living Is Good

Living on campus is OK. I met a lot of new people. I live in a suite setting where we are responsible for cleaning it ourselves. Thats not the best part, but we only have to share a bathroom between 4 people.
