Campus Strictness

Quick Stats

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught... Drinking in your dorm

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The campus police have better things to do, like giving parking tickets, than mess with an intoxicated college kid—unless of course you give them no choice, or you have made your RA an enemy. During football season, people tailgate along Lindsay Street and roll out kegs and TVs, and neither the Norman Police, nor the OU police, bother anyone. As long as you don’t give them a reason to bother you, then they pretty much leave students alone.

There are, however, instances where the OUPD must take action. An example: if a complaint is filed about the noise level in your dorm room. In this case, you will be given a ticket with a fine, and like one of the students interviewed stated, they increase with each instance. Drinking and driving, as students will tell you, is closely monitored around the OU campus. Luckily, any bar or party you are going to be at during freshman year will most likely be relatively close and within walking distance. Even though this is the safer route to go when you are intoxicated, trying to walk (or stumble) back to your room drunk can be a challenge. So, if you are not making a scene or causing a disturbance, you can probably go about your business without being hassled by campus police.

Not Bad

Campus police are pretty easygoing on the most part. People rarely get in trouble at frat parties. However, they have been really cracking down on underage drinking at tailgates, which has just moved the drinking elsewhere. On Campus Corner is where you need to be careful walking around drunk, the Norman Police won't hesitate to give you a PI or MIP.

Campus Strictness

Campus is regular. Students are night owls, sleeping at random hours, and partying at random hours and days as well. Like any other campus, the strictness is alcohol and drug based. Otherwise it is a friendly environment between faculty, security, and students.

Punishments Are Well Enforced

The no drinking policy on campus is very strictly enforced. There are serious consequences given to those who decide to break the rule and drink, especially for those people living in the dorms. It is a five hundred dollar fee for the first offense, one thousand for the second, and fifteen hundred for the third offense. They also require all new students to take an online program that educates them about alcohol abuse and the penalties that go along with it. So in short, don't drink on campus!
