College Prowler Take
For obvious reasons, it’s definitely more convenient to have your own personal computer at OU. With their own Mac or PC, students can write papers without leaving their rooms, chat online with old friends from high school, and if they choose to do so, visit sites that are forbidden on University computers. On the other hand, most students agree that surviving college without a computer is far from impossible. From being at OU, and being around students who, generally speaking, can afford their own computers, or whose parents can afford computers for them, it is easy to think that owning one is a necessity. This is simply not the case, as the University has provided its students with more than enough computer labs, and getting into them is usually not a problem. It is, however, the most convenient—especially around exam time, when computer labs get a high volume of students. Although the server is a little rough at times, there is a number (325-INFO) that has a computer tech on the other line just waiting to help you out, and the best part about it is that they almost never make fun of you while you are still on the phone.

There are computer labs all over the campus, and if you have a laptop, it is really easy to get a connection pretty much wherever you are.

For sure! Bring your own computer. It’s a hassle trying to get in the labs. Enrollment keeps going up as our sports get better. |

Yes, you should bring your own computer to use in the dorms because they have free high-speed Internet access in the rooms. I don’t use the labs very much, other than for printing crap that I need for class when I run out of paper at my apartment. |

There are lots of computer labs on campus, but they’re often crowded. I would definitely recommend bringing your own computer if possible. |

The computers are pretty accessible, but having your own computer is going to beat the University computers no matter where you go. |

Did You Know?President Boren sends out frequent letters addressing the student body on issues such as budget cuts and tuition increases. In these
e-mails his return address is easily accessible to all students. This is no mistake on his secretaries’ part; he wants to get e-mails from the youngsters that represent his school. So go ahead, e-mail away
