Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Drugs are not always visible on and around campus. However, if you ask around, students will tell you that they are easy to find. The common drugs of choice are marijuana and of course alcohol—yes, alcohol is a drug. The state of Oklahoma was once known for having the most meth labs in the country. However, I’m pretty sure that none of the people responsible attend the University of Oklahoma. Marijuana seems to be the drug of choice for those students wishing to partake in drug usage, but it’s still only something you would see in a back room at a party. In other words, there are no noticeable drug problems on campus.

Most OU students comment that they have friends that do some sort of drug or have done it in the past, but most do not admit that it runs rampant. People are pretty discrete if they are using, and big changes in behavior or drawing attention to yourself is the way that drug use becomes noticeable. People want to blame the Greeks for drug use, but in all probability, your average student may use it, too. The key is that it’s done under wraps, and the majority of drug users at OU are, in fact, covert.

Just Like Anywhere Else, I'm Sure

There are certainly plenty of students who drink. I've also had friends discuss their use of marijuana and grade A psychotropics with me, but no one has ever pressured me to drink or do a drug, or, in fact, offered me either. Just as with anywhere else, you'll be able to do as you please without pressure or concern for what others think.

Not Huge

Drug use isn't talked about much, but it's there nonetheless. I've never been pressured into it and you probably won't if you don't go and seek them out.

No Drugs!

I think the campus is excellent when it comes to drugs. They actually just recently enforced a no smoking policy to go in effect soon. I never see drugs or people using them. I don't see alcohol ever. I don't live in the dorms so I can't be a judge of what goes on in there. I know that security is tight and the alcohol policy is very strict. Now when you get off of campus it is a whole different story of course! But the campus itself is very safe and I've never had any problems with seeing drugs or seeing others being influenced or pressured to use them either.
