Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life at OU is the epitome of Greek life that you would expect to see, and possibly more. It is literally impossible to walk five feet without seeing a T-shirt plastered with the letters of a certain house or recent date party. OU has a very large percentage of students that are Greek and has some of the biggest sorority and fraternity houses in the nation. The Greeks at OU tend to hang out together throughout their remaining college years.

There is no pressure to be a part of a fraternity or sorority, but, make no mistake, it is a big deal at OU. To say that Greek life totally dominates the social scene would be an overstatement, but to say that there are places where only Greek’s hang out would not be. There are plenty of activities to participate in that are non-Greek, so students who choose not to participate in Greek life will not necessarily be bored. Being non-Greek at OU is very popular, too, and the non-Greek student population definitely knows how to party—in some people’s opinions, a lot better than any sorority or fraternity ever could. One thing to remember: the Greek parties are monitored by the University.

Greeks Overwhelm the Campus Atmosphere

As a non-Greek, I have been shocked this past year as to how much Greek life still manages to influence me. I wouldn't be surprised if 75% of the campus is Greek and they emphasize their sororities and fraternities so much that I occasionally feel like an outsider when confronted with these people who only seem interested in making friends with their bigs/littles. It gets irritating to see them being so clichy. They are all the same to me - rich, clichy, fake - and they overwhelm students who aren't Greek. I can't wait to move into Traditions next year so that the majority of Greeks will be in their houses and I won't have to hear them coming into the dorms drunk.

It's Pretty Big

Greek Life is huge here. Just about everyone is involved. There are tons of Greek philanthropies and events each month, and frat parties every weekend. You do not need to be Greek to attend, but just about everyone is. You can't go 5 feet without seeing Greek letters on campus, but for the most part, the Greeks are nice and friendly. Girls can still go to parties without being in a sorority, but boys can't if they are not in a fraternity, which can suck.

Greek Life

Greek life is huge part of campus life, when you come on campus yyou can see many of the greek houses. There is a freshman rush usually about a week before school. When you are accepted You get the info in your welcome pkt. Most greek organizations have a house with the exception of maybee ten or twelve. Most greeks are well liked unless they get out of order, then there could be some issues.
