College Prowler Take
Greek life at OU is the epitome of Greek life that you would expect to see, and possibly more. It is literally impossible to walk five feet without seeing a T-shirt plastered with the letters of a certain house or recent date party. OU has a very large percentage of students that are Greek and has some of the biggest sorority and fraternity houses in the nation. The Greeks at OU tend to hang out together throughout their remaining college years. There is no pressure to be a part of a fraternity or sorority, but, make no mistake, it is a big deal at OU. To say that Greek life totally dominates the social scene would be an overstatement, but to say that there are places where only Greek’s hang out would not be. There are plenty of activities to participate in that are non-Greek, so students who choose not to participate in Greek life will not necessarily be bored. Being non-Greek at OU is very popular, too, and the non-Greek student population definitely knows how to party—in some people’s opinions, a lot better than any sorority or fraternity ever could. One thing to remember: the Greek parties are monitored by the University.

A large majority of the students here are in a fraternity or sorority, so it can definitely make it harder to make friends if you do not join one.

I think something like 20 percent of the students are involved in Greek life. It seems more like 60 percent, though. I’m not Greek though, and I’ve found it easy to make friends with Greeks and non-Greeks. There are all different types of people on campus, and I didn’t find it difficult at all to make friends and meet new people. |

Greek life is definitely here, but it does not dominate the social scene. I’m in a music frat. But it’s not the traditional frat with a house and all of that. We just meet once a week. |

Greek life is a pretty big part of the scene. I am Greek, but for me, there is so much else to do around campus besides just that, though. There are, I think, 11 sororities and 15 frats, and they say about 20 percent of campus is Greek. |

Greek life is great. I’m in a sorority, and it’s so much fun. Yes, there are a lot of Greeks, but you don’t have to be one to have fun. I know a ton of girls who are just as involved that aren’t Greek. |
