Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life at OU is the epitome of Greek life that you would expect to see, and possibly more. It is literally impossible to walk five feet without seeing a T-shirt plastered with the letters of a certain house or recent date party. OU has a very large percentage of students that are Greek and has some of the biggest sorority and fraternity houses in the nation. The Greeks at OU tend to hang out together throughout their remaining college years.

There is no pressure to be a part of a fraternity or sorority, but, make no mistake, it is a big deal at OU. To say that Greek life totally dominates the social scene would be an overstatement, but to say that there are places where only Greek’s hang out would not be. There are plenty of activities to participate in that are non-Greek, so students who choose not to participate in Greek life will not necessarily be bored. Being non-Greek at OU is very popular, too, and the non-Greek student population definitely knows how to party—in some people’s opinions, a lot better than any sorority or fraternity ever could. One thing to remember: the Greek parties are monitored by the University.

Greek students are everywhere; that is, one of the few ways to meet people is through the Greek system, as the University puts 0 effort into it otherwise. That said, there are lots of good people in the Greek system; there are as many stereotypical characters floating around as well. It is a big deal at OU, and someone not wanting to become involved in Greek life should expect an uphill battle in the social scene, as the Greek system constitutes the majority of the social scene at OU. That said, don't expect to hear about it; Greeks tend to hang out with other Greeks.

Greeks Run OU

Greek life is pretty much all over OU. You can have an enjoyable experience at the school if you aren't greek, but as a non-greek it is pretty tough to get involved in campus organizations. The student governments, the union board, even a lot of the church organizations are dominated by Greek life.

However, it's really easy to get into the parties as a non-greek.

Greek Gods

Greek life seems to be the center of everything and gives students a big head. Make themselves seem more important than they are.
