| Advice on Finding a Job/Internship | |
OU has many options as far as Career Services go, and it is recommended that students have internships before they graduate. Many students make the mistake of not looking into internship positions until late into their academic careers. Many students may not realize that there are internships for underclassmen. Internships allow students to combine what they have learned in the classroom with actual experience in the workplace. Having an internship allows you to try out career options and gain professional experience that will be helpful in finding a full-time position after graduation. Many employers start as early as the fall semester to interview for internship positions. So, waiting until the middle of the second semester is not an option if you plan on having an internship, as many of the positions will be filled. You can go to their Web site, www.ou.edu/career, and get started there, or you can visit their office in the Student Union. Open a Sooner Job Search Account with Career Services to get your résumé in the OU Web Resume Books and to participate in interviews on campus. Check Sooner Job Search weekly to see which companies have scheduled on-campus interviews for internship positions, or look at the interview information notebooks in the Career Services Lobby for additional information on the companies interviewing on campus for internships. Go to www.ou.edu and click on employment. The University adds new listings to their jobs and internships daily and you can even apply online.
