College Prowler Take

You can find a party or a gathering at a bar any night of the week, and on any day during football season. Depending on your choice of substance, and the type of people whom you choose to hang around with, the hot spots vary. Campus Corner, a strip of bars and restaurants, offers a more laid-back approach to a night out.

Any bar near campus has the same type of crowd, but it differs a little from place to place. There are patches of non-Greeks during the summer when school is no longer in session. Drink specials can be found on any given night, and there is always a neat dive to check out within the vicinity. Just remember to use your time wisely. Students can easily become caught up in the nightlife, especially freshmen, and forget the real reason that they are enrolled at Oklahoma. Overall though, it is extremely possible to keep up with your studies and lead an exciting social life.

The bars are really fun around Norman, but the cops give out DUIs like they’re candy. In Oklahoma City, there is an area called Bricktown with quite a few bars and clubs. It’s a blast on the weekends.

There are great bars around campus, and we’re only 30 minutes from Bricktown in Oklahoma City, which is party central.

I really don’t drink, so I don’t go to bars or anything like that. However, I do know that we have several popular bars in Norman, and Oklahoma City has many clubs.

Well, as far as clubs go, you have to go to Oklahoma City to find any, and all the good ones are 21 and over, or 23 and over. I am not much of a clubber. I am not 21 yet, but I can tell you of some good places. There is the Vista, Coaches, Mr. Bill’s, Brothers, and most of the restaurants have decent bars, too.

Bill’s is a great bar. There are a few others. I don’t do that scene much, but there is a good selection, and it is close to campus.

Club Crawler

There are no official “clubs” in Norman worth going to, but there are some pretty decent dives in nearby Oklahoma City.

Organization Parties

Many of PANAM’s members are international, but they throw parties about every other weekend throughout the year and everyone is invited.

Club Listings

A hot spot for students due to its location in Norman. It is the site for many of the international student parties. There is a main dance floor and bar. Music varies but includes current hits and a few oldies. Admission is usually about $10.

If you’re sick of frat boys and sorority sisters, and are looking for a more sophisticated clientele, then head on up to the Marriott hotel for a nightcap. The hotel bar offers high-priced drinks with a nice urban feel. The dance floor is large, and on weekend nights, this place gets pretty packed.

Bricktown Pub is situated right in the middle of Bricktown, which is a popular place for college students to spend their weekend nights. Downstairs there is a bar and a huge dance floor where club music causes good and bad dancers alike to shake their butts. Upstairs is a little mellower, as this is where local bands perform.

City Walk contains seven clubs in one, with each boasting a different crowd and a different style of music. For the ‘80s music as well as club music fan, City Walk created clubs Oxygen and Boogie Nights. The Safari Bar and Martini Bar attract a much mellower crowd. The dress code is anything but jeans and flip flops, and believe me, you will see a little of everything.

The big night at Champions is Thursday, and they offer drink specials on beer to lure in college clientele. In addition to well-dressed sorority girls and beer-guzzling frat boys, Champions also attracts an older, out of college, former frat boy and sorority girl, crowd. Dress is a little dressier than casual.

Joe’s Taverna is also a good location, as it’s on Campus Corner. A daily drink special, and a mixed clientele with a laid-back atmosphere is what you can expect at this hole-in-the-wall bar. The dress code is very casual.

Probably the most popular bar among OU students, the Mont has been here in some form or another since the 1920s. Specials vary from month to month, but there’s always something affordable on tap. Having a drink on the patio when the weather’s nice is definitely a must.

Bill’s is a pretty popular Norman bar, restaurant, and music venue. The bar itself is very laid-back, and student organizations often use it for various events. Cover can range from nothing to $10, depending on whether there’s an event or live music, so check ahead of time to see what’s going on that evening.

During the day, and until 11 p.m., Bison Witches serves up awesome sandwiches and soup combos, but after-hours on the weekends, it becomes one of the most frequented bars in Norman. Dress code is very casual, and they offer daily drink specials.

This is another restaurant and bar. At night, Brothers boasts a great location on Campus Corner and Wednesday night’s $10 all-you-can-eat is until midnight. Come early, because this place gets really packed, and although they have a patio where local bands perform, the place itself is relatively small and intimate.
