Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking at OU can be an absolutely horrendous experience. In fact, unless you’re willing to pay an outrageous amount of money to park at the student union or to pay off your parking tickets (the attendants actually get off on giving them), driving to class is not recommended.

However, it is manageable to commute after your freshman year. Normally, you can get friends to drop you off, or weasel your way into a parking lot nearby your class. It is not unreasonable to walk the entire campus. Walking to your classes is a good way to stay in shape, especially your freshman year. Tuition and other fees that go along with attending college are expensive enough, so one needs to think about whether or not having a car on campus is worth the burden and expense that it costs in order to park on campus. This is not to mention the huge inconvenience of having to find parking spaces. Commuters obviously do not have a choice in driving to class, but if you live on campus, and you have a car, your best bet is to walk to your classes, and leave your car parked wherever it sits overnight.

Parking is hard to come by. You find yourself racing to get to a parking space or circling like a vulture. Unless you get out of class early, a parking space close to your dorm is out of the question.

Parking Sucks

A parking permit is really expensive. You just have to find the few spots on campus where they won't give you a ticket. I found a couple spots :D

Sucks

Parking is horrible! The university sells more permits than they have parking spaces so to ensure themselves revenue on tickets. And permits are too expensive!

Getting a Parking Permit

Parking permits run around $195. Many upperclassmen attempt to avoid purchasing a permit but end up accumulating many tickets throughout the year for not having one. If you’re going to park on campus often, it’s best to just buy a permit.
