College Prowler Take

It’s a well-known fact among many Eugenians that weed spreads like wildfire and is readily available for anyone who wants it. UO’s drug scene could be frowned on by some, based on how readily available such substances as marijuana and mushrooms are. However, one characteristic of the drug scene around Eugene is that peer pressure is rarely an issue; although there is a visible segment of the population that chooses to partake, you’re not likely to feel left out if you say no. Security officials do make an effort to combat drug pushers, but marijuana (and other drugs, to a lesser degree) are still easy to come by. Students speak of harder drugs such as cocaine and LSD being common, but everything besides marijuana and mushrooms seems to be kept quiet.

UO’s drug scene is very lifestyle-based, which means that it’s easy to avoid. If you choose not to hang out with people who do drugs, you may not even encounter them during your time on campus. Although it seems like the drug scene is more prevalent than at other colleges, the absence of peer pressure and pushing means that the campus still has a safe, positive atmosphere overall.

It isn’t horrible, but there is a lot of weed. If you don’t like it, it’s not like it’s being shoved in your face. It’s kind of talked about like cigarettes.
