Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While the University of Oregon certainly isn’t Miami Beach, but it’s not Fargo either. Instead, what you’ll find is a happy medium in terms of the eligible student body. Students all agree that spring term is the best time in Eugene, when you can see what’s been hiding under all the clothes after a cold winter. Men generally aren’t disappointed with the quality of women, whereas ladies offer mixed views of who’s hot and who’s not. The biggest criticism between sexes at UO is a lack of style or effort put into appearance. However, with 20,000 students, you’re bound to find someone you don’t mind looking at. The key is to keep up with the social scene and meet as many people as possible; given such a large student body and variety of people, you’ve got a good chance of finding someone to stay with you during, or even after, your college years.

Looks

At the University of Oregon we have a very diverse student body. We have many different types of students that fit any category someone can think of. We have a very strong international program, so I have met a lot of students that are from out of the country. The social life is great, we have the atmosphere to fit whatever the student wants. It is easy to go out whenever you want, but can also find people to have a simple night with.

Average College Students

There is a very diverse crowd at UoO. There are tons of environmental activists, hippies, fratboys, college nerds, sport stars and just normal college kids. Most kids dress in normal attire, but the hippy element dresses in more anti-consumption attire made at home. The main social glue here is drinking. There are a lot of bars, microbreweries and weekend parties here.

Not a Lot to Choose from

If it's dating that you are looking for, I would suggest a different school.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene at the University is open to everything from coffee shops to bars to the classroom itself. Students at the UO tend to be outgoing and approachable.

Hookups or Relationships?

Oregon seems to go through phases when it comes to the dating scene. For one term, everyone will be involved in relationships; the next, the selection is as open as a buffet at Las Vegas. Serious relationships seem to be most prominent at UO, but hookups do occur (most often in the Greek system and the bar scene).

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

For freshman, the dorms provide a great opportunity to live in close proximity to members of the opposite sex. Many dorm friendships have the opportunity to become something more. For the upperclassmen, the hot spots of Taylor's and Rennie's off campus never seem to fail for meeting members of the opposite sex. Outside of the classroom, coffeeshops also provide the chance for social interaction in a comfortable atmosphere. The University is swarming with nearly 20,000 students, so opportunities to meet your next boyfriend or girlfriend are never too far away.

Dress Code

There is nothing close to a prescribed dress code at the University of Oregon—you'll see people in all kinds of clothing during your time as a student. Whether you wear 3-piece suits every day or dress like you're fresh out of the ‘60s, you'll be accepted around Eugene and probably even fall into some sort of niche.
