College Prowler Take
The University of Oregon is a big school in a small town. Eugene is more liberal than many college towns, however, and offers a lot of atmosphere for its size. Tolerance and acceptance are strong values in the area, and many students like the feeling of community that comes from living in a town this close-knit. UO has something for every style and mindset, along with a wealth of opportunities and experiences to prepare you for the world outside college. At the UO, you’ll find a school that is strong in both athletics and academics, as well as a campus surrounded by the perfect area for outdoor activities. With a beautiful campus and laid-back atmosphere, Oregon definitely stands apart from similar schools. Although ethnic diversity is lacking, there is a wealth of lifestyles and ideas to be found on and off campus. The weakest elements of the UO are more trivial things, such as parking and weather. While the academics may not be Harvard-level, most students feel that they’re being prepared for a competitive world both in the classroom and outside of it. Because of the liberal atmosphere, it’s important to know how to balance schoolwork and social life if you come to Oregon. However, this isn’t any more of a problem than with most city schools, and few students complain about feeling unsafe or distracted. The University of Oregon can provide the quintessential college experience with few drawbacks, provided you can adapt to life in Eugene.

Overall, I’ve had a good experience at the UO. I’ve learned a tremendous amount about journalism from the opportunity to work at the campus paper, and the journalism school has provided a few decent classes. The environment is very friendly, and the campus is beautiful. I don’t want to be anywhere else because this place just feels like home. |

I love it here. It’s a laid-back lifestyle, and I think it’s pretty healthy. People like to have house parties and do the outdoors thing. Housing is cheap, easy, and nice. The campus is small with lots of trees and brick buildings, and has an excellent feel to it. You always run into someone you know. If you don’t mind the rain, I think this is a great place. |

Overall, I have made wonderful friendships that keep me here in Eugene. My major-specific courses are highly interesting and taught by wonderful professors. However, my general requirements were boring and often taught by TAs. Often I wish I were at a school in a larger city, with better opportunities for internships. The lack of dance clubs and interesting bars is also a drawback in Eugene. However, at times the community feeling is comforting. |

I don’t like the weather here, but my friends are great. I love campus, and I love the school in general. Shopping is good. Hiking and outdoor sports prevail. |

It is fun here, and the people are great, especially if you like a small-town atmosphere. It may not suit you if you like big cities. |
