Some guys are hot, but most are incredibly unattractive, very unkept, hippie types. There are a lot of stereotypical nerdy guys, too, especially with the RAs. There are hot girls all over, but there are also a lot of girls who are only into books, or that do not keep in shape. Take your pick.

Obviously, the closer to campus, the more expensive. I live in the popular place for sophomores and juniors—Ducks and the surrounding apartment complexes (about $360 a month). There are always parties going on, but don’t expect it to be like the dorms. It’s about a 40-minute walk, a 15-minute bike ride, or a 10-minute drive from campus.

It is fairly convenient. There are several apartment complexes just across the river that caters to students along with lots of houses around campus. It is definitely worth it after your first year.

I have never felt on unsafe, although make sure to avoid the cemetery at night---there have been some assaults there. They also have panic boxes, which are denoted with blue lights. You hit them if you are in distress, and campus security (DPS) will quickly respond. Finally, do not drink obscene amounts in the dorm. It is stupid, and the RAs may write you up.

Security and safety on campus are good. I have never felt unsafe or scared even to walk to another hall or the library even late at night. An incident or two have occurred this year, but it has all been just outside of campus. The school provides shuttles that will pick you up for free and take you to where you want to go if you don't want to walk.

I think it is pretty safe. There is the security place right on campus, and there are call boxes to hit if you ever feel unsafe. There is also an assault prevention shuttle that students can call to pick them up.

I live in Barnhart hall, which is the athlete dorm. The rooms are huge and you have your own bathroom. I love my dorm! The only problem is that its five blocks from campus, but it’s right on the bus line.

All I have to say is, thank God for spring and the warmer weather! I would say we have a pretty good-looking campus for both sexes. You won’t be disappointed.

I think the students in attendance here are generally good looking. There are a lot of pretty girls, and quite a few good-looking guys, and lots and lots of preps (lots of Abercrombie wear). At the same time, there are lots of hippies and random people. Nobody here is particularly snobby, that I’ve noticed.

Both guys and girls dress very casual, mostly not too concerned about their appearance. Overall, everyone’s pretty laid-back.

UO is recognized as one of the most active campuses in the nation. Varsity sports are huge! There are sell out crowds all the time, and the entire state rallies behind the teams. There is nothing like watching a football game at Autzen Stadium or a basketball game at the Pit.

The food in Eugene is very good if you know the right places. For a quick, cheap meal you can get pizza by the slice at Sy’s Pizza, which is near campus. Burrito Boy is also a favorite for good and inexpensive Mexican food. If you’re taking somebody out for a nice dinner and don’t mind the budget, Ambrosia has the best Italian in Eugene, and the Electric Station has a great atmosphere and a wide variety of foods. For Chinese food, Ocean Sky provides large plates, and the Maple Garden is near campus and provides inexpensive but tasty food. For a good steak, try West Brother’s or Steelhead.

As a girl, you can get into any frat party you want; I’d say you’d be able to get free alcohol, but all the houses are dry. Anyway, I’m not into it and I still go out and have fun, but if you talk to people in the system they say there is no other way. You really kind of have to see it for yourself.

Overall, I’ve had a good experience at the UO. I’ve learned a tremendous amount about journalism from the opportunity to work at the campus paper, and the journalism school has provided a few decent classes. The environment is very friendly, and the campus is beautiful. I don’t want to be anywhere else because this place just feels like home.

Overall, I have made wonderful friendships that keep me here in Eugene. My major-specific courses are highly interesting and taught by wonderful professors. However, my general requirements were boring and often taught by TAs. Often I wish I were at a school in a larger city, with better opportunities for internships. The lack of dance clubs and interesting bars is also a drawback in Eugene. However, at times the community feeling is comforting.

I love it here. It’s a laid-back lifestyle, and I think it’s pretty healthy. People like to have house parties and do the outdoors thing. Housing is cheap, easy, and nice. The campus is small with lots of trees and brick buildings, and has an excellent feel to it. You always run into someone you know. If you don’t mind the rain, I think this is a great place.
