Funding for U of O

My mom has worked closely with the financial aid department and said my rep was very helpful and went above and beyond to help us with additional aid. Any time I have needed assistance with forms, etc Josh was there for us.

I wish more aid was made available for out-of-state students because of the burden it has put on my mom. Allowing for students to claim Oregon residency would be a big help to paying for college.

Financial Aid Is Why I Went Here!

The amount of financial aid is phenomenal! There are many Oregon scholarships available just for students going to UO and as an Oregon resident with a family EFC of 0 and good grades in high school and I was eligible for the Oregon Pathway which pays me 10,700 a year for four years. That is almost half of my total costs each year, just from the university!

Riciculous and Crazy

I was told by my high school advisors and by the University advisors that taking more difficult classes throughout highschool would give me more scholarship opportunities for college. THAT IS THE BIGGEST LIE I HAVE EVER HEARD. I lost my 4.0 because I took an AP US History class and got a B+. I was told not to worry because colleges and universities look at the difficulty of your schedule as well as your GPA. I applied for over 100 scholarships, and I received 1. I went in to talk to a University councilor about this and they told me that when they receive academic-based scholarship applications they order them in terms of GPA - the highest GPA is put at the top of the list and the lowest GPA at the bottom. My GPA was 3.92 because of the B I received in AP US History and because (unlike most schools) my school does not weight grades. The advisor at the University told me that for the academic-based scholarships this year, the applicants who received scholarships had a GPA higher than a 4.0 because there were so many people with weighted GPA's. I asked if class difficulty or the fact that some schools weight GPA was considered, and I was finally told that it only matters what your GPA is. The only time class difficulty comes into play is when you and another person are tied with GPA and the scholarship provider is trying to decide which person should receive the scholarship.
