Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Free public transportation is one of the biggest perks of being an ID-carrying Pitt student. Both the city bus lines and the 'T' are free and can give you access to the expansive Pittsburgh neighborhoods served by their routes. Local shopping districts and areas with nightlife are close by to campus. If you're willing to ride a bit farther, you can reach a few different shopping plazas, including the Waterfront, which has a Target, Best Buy, restaurants, movie theaters, and stores. Free bus rides are especially great for going places like Downtown where parking is always a hassle. Most of the buses that come through Oakland go Downtown so there's never much of a wait.

The biggest complaint about public transportation is availability. During the daytime, you shouldn't have any problems getting where you need to go—buses to all major areas run frequently, especially during rush hour. But at night, options tend to be more limited. Some bus routes quit running around midnight on weeknights, and none run past 3 a.m. It's a little better on weekends, but you'll still want to check schedules carefully before you go too far out. Some routes only run once an hour after peak times and that can seem like forever in the middle of a Pittsburgh winter. Despite this drawback, the buses are too convenient to pass up. If you explore the quirks of each route early in your college career, you'll not only learn the city but also be able to get places faster and with less trouble.

Great!

Transportation is great! Not only is there the port authority bus system that runs throughout the city and outside of pittsburgh but the university it self has a shuttle that travels around campus, and there is also safe rider that runs almost 24 hours to make sure that the campus is always safe and keeping students out of trouble.
