College Prowler Take
The University has made great efforts over the last several years to draw students to campus by expanding the housing options on campus. This effort has helped to create the residential community the school now enjoys. One popular option for upperclassmen is the on-campus houses owned by the University. Greek students have the option of living in the Greek houses, which are also owned by the University, and upperclassmen have their choice of any dorm they wish to live in. Freshmen live in one of nine well-kept residence halls, which are arranged in two quadrangles on the north and south sides of campus. Each building has recreational areas, vending machines, kitchen facilities, coin-operated laundry machines, a television lounge, a piano lounge, and study areas. If you are not a big fan of communal bathrooms, you can opt for suite-style living after freshman year. Those who do share a bathroom with their entire floor have little to worry about; cleaning services keep the facilities decent and livable, and you will rarely have to wait for a shower.

Todd/Phibbs is the party dorm; if you like staying up late and always having people around, go for it, but if you ever want peace and quiet, stay away. Other than that, the freshman dorms are pretty much all the same. There are a some theme-living freshman dorms/floors, including the outdoors dorm, the substance-free and healthy living floors, and a couple of floors grouped by freshman seminar classes. Upperclassmen dorms are much nicer, especially Trimble, where you share a living room, bathroom, and kitchen with 3-5 friends, and University, where you share a living room and bathroom with a couple other people. Overall though, the dorms at UPS are WAY better than at other universities.

Our dorm rooms are typically very spacious. There are kitchens, common areas, laundry rooms, and study rooms in every residence hall. There are also computers with free printing and bike rooms that lock. For freshmen, Regester and Todd Phibbs are the nicest (most recently renovated) buildings, but Schiff (the outdoors-themed dorm) and Smith have the largest rooms. For upperclassmen, Trimble is really nice because it is set up suite-style.

The dorms are actually all really nice. Although, the large all-freshman dorms are older and can be really loud. The special interest dorms (with specific themed floors) are much nicer with larger rooms. The best dorm is only for upperclassmen, and it has five- and six-person suites, while all the other dorms are either doubles or singles.

Besides large dorms on campus, UPS...
Besides large dorms on campus, UPS has a row of houses on campus called Theme Row. Theme Row has all of the language houses, the activity house, and other themes. The houses can house many students each year and are very fun to live in because you get to know your housemates very well. I have lived in a house on Theme Row every year I've been here so far.

I am so thankful I go to UPS whenever I go to visit my friends at other schools. Compared to most schools, the dorms here are amazing—they are large, well-kept, and very beautiful on the inside and out. |
