Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When students cite the reasons they chose to attend UPS, the dating scene would probably not come up at all. Many women say they come to UPS to add a BA to their name, not an MRS. The guys, on the other hand, have a good chance of finding Mrs. Right since the high girl-to-guy ratio gives them a fairly large pool from which to choose. Given that the winters are chilly, most people are kept tucked under their jackets and hats between classes, making it hard to distinguish between potential date options. It does, however, make for nice surprises and spring flings when the flowers begin to bloom in May, when some of those preppy dressers might shed their khakis and Birkenstocks and actually show some skin.

That said, UPS students are attractive—even if they are not here to date. Well-dressed and good-looking guys and girls can be found in the business, English, and social science majors. But if you are too busy paying attention to the professor to check out who is hot amongst your classmates, pay attention in the cafeteria lines; your future significant other just might be the girl or guy three people ahead of you with the turkey sandwich on their tray.

Relaxed

The people are great and their are a lot of different types of people. I will say there are more women than men, like many other liberal arts universities, but it has made it hard for me to connect to a lot of men on campus. Everyone is great though, relaxed and fun.

Girls Don't Flaunt It

I dont actually think the girls here are that unattractive necessarily, they just dont make a huge point to come across as hot. I think equally attractive girls at other, big schools appear hotter because they try harder to. Its partly just a northwest thing. There are a lot of kinda hippie/hipster, artsy, outdoorsy girls (and guys). It just makes up a different kind of scene than you might have at other schools

Not Exactly the Best, If You're a Girl.

There are definitely some pretty girls, but not an abundance. There are definitely some good-looking guys, but not many of those either. They're normal people, but pretty smart too.

Facts

Hookups or Relationships?

There are a little of both—usually not simultaneously. Parties are often good for one seeking a commitment-free hookup, but many students are involved in relationships. As you will find at most schools, the majority of students here have a wide range of agendas when it comes to dating.

Dress Code

There is certainly no official style of dress here at UPS. As the campus has a relatively high "hippy" population, it is commonplace to see students sporting dreadlocks and Birkenstocks. Clothing choices by the majority of the campus tend to be on the preppy side, reflecting the academics here.
