Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UPS has a very safe campus because it is in a quiet, residential area. The fact that Security Services are available 24 hours a day makes students feel very safe and comfortable on campus. The escort service that picks students up and brings them back to campus is a well-known and utilized feature of this all-hours service. The grounds are very well lit, and several students feel comfortable walking around the University at night. If there is a case where a student needs help, security can be called from any of the locations on campus that are equipped with phones on the campus network. There are also several blue-light security booths, and cell phones can also be used. Security can recognize the location of any phone and have someone on site within a minute. There is a feeling that security officers are perhaps a little too present, though, but this feeling is generally held only by those who have reason to attract a security officer.

Students feel secure indoors as well. Within the student body, there is a considerable level of trust, as many students find that they can leave their dorm rooms unlocked and not worry that their valuables will be missing when they return. Within the city of Tacoma, the amount of danger is about the same as all other larger cities. Generating a bad reputation for breeding killers like Ted Bundy and the Beltway Sniper, Tacoma is actually a safe place to be. While students should exercise caution in any crowd, individuals can safely walk the streets alone in Tacoma at all hours.

Campus Security

There is no real possibility of danger at the school but campus security is always snooping around invading privacy. It gets really annoying and they are never nice. In addition, there is always a long process with security.

Security

I have never felt threatened on campus, however there have been a lot of theft in the pool locker rooms and in the dorms. Theft seems to be a big problem on this campus and it seems like there is nothing really done to improve it or stop it from happening. Other than that I have not had a problem with safety on campus

Safe Feeling

On campus, you feel very safe and secure. The surrounding area is good too, however, it is Tacoma so crime and theft are high. make sure to travel in groups at night.
