Class Size and Freshman Orientation

I love the size of my classes you know everyone and your professors know you on a personal level. The freshman orientation makes you feel comfortable with the school and finds friends easily. I also love the size of the campus for walking purposes I wouldn't trade that part

Facts

Traditions
  • The Hatchet: The Hatchet is a school icon that used to trade hands between graduating classes. It would disappear for years on end and then mysteriously reappear. After reappearing in 2000, it was on display in a high security, alarm-sensitive case in the SUB until it disappeared on the eve of graduation 2002.
  • Log Jam : The first weekend that everyone is back from the summer, everyone gathers at Jones Circle for a BBQ, music, and to meet old friends and make new ones. A helicopter flies by to take pictures of the party and drops several Ping-Pong balls to the ground that are marked with prizes.
  • The Luau : The Luau is a dance and dinner hosted by the Hui O Hawaii club where over 2000 University and community members come together to share a traditional Hawaiian meal—including an underground pig roasting—and plenty of Hawaiian belly dancing.
  • The Rail : The Rail is an organized set of parties every year during Halloween weekend. To attend the parties, students have to purchase a ticket in advance, which allows them access to several houses on a street, each of which has a different theme.
Urban Legends
  • Be sure and watch out where you walk during finals week— there is a clover in the floor design of the SUB. If you step on it, it means you will have bad luck on your next test.
  • Ted Bundy buried his first victim right under the Thompson fountain.
  • The reason the doors to the Memorial Fieldhouse are so large is so that elephants could get in the building as it was once used as a circus venue.
