Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UPS’s location in a quiet residential area is frustrating for students who would like to venture off campus for some raucous fun. Some students don’t mind being stuck in the bubble though, and spend all of their seven nights of the week at campus movies, events, and parties sponsored by student organizations, or at campus house parties. The city offers a lot to do during the day (see Local Atmosphere section), but museums, parks, and even some coffeeshops close early in the evenings, except for the occasional open mic night or performance by a local band. Many students agree that, unless you are over 21 or have a really good fake ID, your nights in the immediate area will be pretty lifeless.

For the over 21 crowd, a few bars are located within a few blocks of campus. In terms of clubs, Tacoma is just not the ideal city to get your groove on. The Loft has an unofficial monopoly on the dance scene, so their motivation to offer intriguing deals to students is low. For students who are looking for a good club, Seattle offers a wealth of opportunities. There really is anything you can imagine in terms of nightlife in several districts of Seattle, like clubs, bars, and wild parties at the University of Washington. There is also more than enough lodging if you want to stay in the city for the night. In the end, there is hope for the dedicated, those of age, and for those who are willing to travel a bit.

Parties Are Alright

House parties are typical for college: overcrowded, sweaty, and less fun than they seem at first. These parties and frat parties are more freshman type nightlife activities. Once you have a group of friends (and a house) youre more likely to pregame and party in smaller groups, which is fun. The bars are alright, but on weekends they're mostly full of T-Locs. Not a big student bar scene

Like Any Other School

There's always parties going on. Also, there are a lot of bars in this town so a lot of the older kids like to go bar hopping and things like that.

kick-backs on the weekends and lots of weed

The nightlife as a freshman consists--from what I experienced and observed--of getting drunk, walking to off-campus houses rented by upperclassmen, drinking more, then coming back to the dorms and making a good deal of noise.

Yes, this is a normal college pasttime. But unfortunately the school provides no other options for students who don't choose this particular route. The school provides very few activities to deter its students from spending every night of the weekend drinking, and Tacoma completely lacks any other entertaining ways to spend this time.
