College Prowler Take
Parking is not a problem at UPS. Heavy morning traffic to campus might cause you to worry about finding a space, but once you arrive on campus, you will realize that there are ample lots close to all of the buildings. Because the campus itself is relatively small, you are probably used to walking farther from the parking garage to the mall than you will have to walk from your car to the classroom at UPS. Approximately 44 percent of students, living both on and off campus, have a car. Parking is such a breeze that many students are shocked to learn that their friends at state schools are paying several hundred dollars to get a permit—and even that does not guarantee they will get a spot. Puget Sound students simply have to register their car with Security Services and it is free for them to park in any of the several lots on campus. The lots are relatively secure, and it is not uncommon for students to leave their vehicles in one space until late in the evening. Use caution though, and leave your vehicle in a well-lit area; break-ins do occur, and anyone’s car can be vulnerable. Also, know which spaces are reserved, know where the no-parking or staff zones are. There are no meters on campus, or nearby for that matter. I will say this: parking tickets are a nasty little surprise to find on your windshield after a long day.

Parking in some lots is more...
Parking in some lots is more crowded than others but still doable. Campus is small enough, and close enough to stores, bars, etc. in the neighborhood, that you don't need a car, but it can be nice to have to get out into downtown Tacoma and Seattle.

Parking on campus seems to work...
Parking on campus seems to work really well. There are a lot of parking lots all over campus, so it isn't too hard to find a spot near where you want to be. Freshman aren't treated any differently than other students where parking is concerned.

Parking on campus is accessible,...
Parking on campus is accessible, safe, and best of all...free! Students just need to register their cars with the University and can park anywhere without a charge. Anyone can have a car on campus, but it isn't imperative. I've also never heard of anyone having trouble finding a parking spot on campus.

There is plenty of parking on campus. You may not be able to park extremely close to where you're going, but you will definitely find a spot near the dining hall, which is a central spot on campus.

Parking is a non-issue at UPS...
Parking is a non-issue at UPS because there is so much of it, and many students don’t even have a car. A few of the bike racks get a little crowded from time to time. |
