Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dining Halls at URI are hit or miss, and some people love the food, while others hate it. It is certainly not gourmet, but is pretty good, and most students are satisfied with it. Mainfare and Butterfield dining halls are buffet-style. Students who live on campus must have their hand scanned to enter either dining hall, while commuters can just swipe their student ID. Students who live off campus have smaller, less-expensive meal plans than those who live on campus. There are two main types of meal plans: The board plan, which allows a certain number of meals per week, and the point plan, where students can add points, or credit, to their ID card.

Variety is key in a college dining hall. Since you eat the same food every day, it is good to mix it up so you don’t get bored. Both Mainfare and Butterfield, better known as “Hope” and “The Butt,” have a lot of variety, so students have a lot of food to choose from. There are also often vegetarian and vegan dishes, so all students will have a fair selection. Many student's main concern with the dining halls is that they tend to get very busy at certain times and the lines are very long.

URI Dining Halls

The dining halls on campus could use an updated menu and more variety to their meals. I think if URI surveyed students they could better meet the standards that students are looking for. The food is not horrible, but personally as a student I get sick of eating and seeing the same foods. More variety at URI dining halls would improve my dining experience.

Vegetarian Review

For campus dining, the food is not always terrible. There is a sort of selection and variation. However, for a vegetarian it is hard to change it up and keep yourself entertained and well-nourished. It is even harder for a vegan. Though vegan/vegetarian selections are offered sometimes, they are not offered every day. The holiday focused meals are the best quality meals and should be served every day.
