Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dining Halls at URI are hit or miss, and some people love the food, while others hate it. It is certainly not gourmet, but is pretty good, and most students are satisfied with it. Mainfare and Butterfield dining halls are buffet-style. Students who live on campus must have their hand scanned to enter either dining hall, while commuters can just swipe their student ID. Students who live off campus have smaller, less-expensive meal plans than those who live on campus. There are two main types of meal plans: The board plan, which allows a certain number of meals per week, and the point plan, where students can add points, or credit, to their ID card.

Variety is key in a college dining hall. Since you eat the same food every day, it is good to mix it up so you don’t get bored. Both Mainfare and Butterfield, better known as “Hope” and “The Butt,” have a lot of variety, so students have a lot of food to choose from. There are also often vegetarian and vegan dishes, so all students will have a fair selection. Many student's main concern with the dining halls is that they tend to get very busy at certain times and the lines are very long.

Okay but Repetitive

theres 2 dining halls. theres always available pizza, burgers, fries and any type of sandwiches. Homestyle includes usually pasta, a type of meat, and sometimes they have fish or shrimp. Sometimes they have themed nights such as Caribbean food or valentines day dinner. For breakfast theres always cereal, toast or bagels. For limited hours they have waffle machines. Overall it's okay but gets repetitive after awhile.

Food

There are many choices of food to pick from which is very good in the dining hall. Also, the food is good depending what you get. Sometimes it gets a little boring because the food is repetitive.

Decent Food, Good Variety

There are two main dining halls on campus that provide a variety of options at all times a day. However, after a while the meals start to get repetitive. But the good news is that there's a lot of other places on campus to get food such as pizza, calzones, subs, chicken, ice cream, etc.. As long as you don't mind spending a little money every now and then you'll be content with the food. If you want to be spend the bare minimum on food you'll still be fine, but you may not have a ton a variety.
