Computers are an essential part of college life, and the vast majority of students have their own, many of which come from Ram Computers, the computer store in the Memorial Union. There are also computers and labs all over campus that are almost always in use. Students using computers on campus may be doing anything from writing a paper to checking a fantasy sports team. Many students here use the campus computer labs just to browse the Internet and kill time between classes. However, students being productive can also be found in the computer lab e-mailing a professor or finishing up an assignment.

Some students carry laptops around campus with them wherever they go. Many students will be seen on their laptops upstairs in the library or any academic building. It is not essential to bring a laptop to class with you, but some people like to do all of their work on their own computer. Plus, the University often interacts with students via the Internet. Students receive URI newsletters through e-mail, manage their courses on e-campus, and even do some coursework online, as well.
