Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While not every student uses drugs, it is impossible to say that there is not a drug scene at URI. Drugs can be found very easily on and off campus. URI students like to party very hard, and substance abuse is bound to happen. Drugs can be a big or a little part of a student's life in college—it is all up to the individual. For some, drugs lead to poor performance in classes, while others can balance work and play very nicely. URI has had to bear the nickname “UR-High,” but most students do realize that there is a time and place for everything. If you want nothing to do with the drug scene, no worries, there are plenty of students here who wish to remain sober.

Marijuana is the drug that students are most willing to admit they use and/or come into contact with. Some students have even said that their first encounter with drugs occurred at URI. Although drugs are used at URI, they are not pervasive, and there is no pressure to do drugs, either.

The drug and alcohol scene depend on who you hang out with. If you hang out with a group of people who enjoy getting high or smoking then drugs and alcohol will be more noticeable. If you make friends with other students who do not take part in these activities then you will not notice these acts.

Drinking Is Very Active on Campus

Drinking and partying is very prevelant at school. Policy is no alcohol but policy is not enforced because stucents rooms cannot be checked. Stusents with cups in hand cannot even be checked, so how can policy be enforced? I don't know about drugs, haven't seen any but I am not the ytype that would be approached by any druggie.

Not Sure...

Not really sure, I do know that people like to smoke pot behind the buildings (sometimes under my window) and I have had to call the police a few times because the smell makes me sick. Unfortunately the police really do not care. Other than occasionally seeing people smoking I really don't know, I don't go out to parties or hang out with the types of people who party, drink, or do drugs
