College Prowler Take
While not every student uses drugs, it is impossible to say that there is not a drug scene at URI. Drugs can be found very easily on and off campus. URI students like to party very hard, and substance abuse is bound to happen. Drugs can be a big or a little part of a student's life in college—it is all up to the individual. For some, drugs lead to poor performance in classes, while others can balance work and play very nicely. URI has had to bear the nickname “UR-High,” but most students do realize that there is a time and place for everything. If you want nothing to do with the drug scene, no worries, there are plenty of students here who wish to remain sober. Marijuana is the drug that students are most willing to admit they use and/or come into contact with. Some students have even said that their first encounter with drugs occurred at URI. Although drugs are used at URI, they are not pervasive, and there is no pressure to do drugs, either.

"URHIGH" didn't get its name for nothing. There is a lot of marijuana and other drugs to get lifted off of. It's not solicited; the students aren't idiots. I've realized the cops like busting the freshman dealers right before winter break to get them out of this school after their first semester. If you do drugs, you will find them. If you don't, you can easily avoid them as well.

There was more peer pressure in high school than in college. Back then, you wanted to look cool so you would try stuff. Now, no one cares if you smoke or not. It’s not going to get you more friends. |

People don’t really offer drugs. I think if you want them, you have to ask around. The school is so big that it is kind of hard to figure out where you can get what. So, I don’t even bother unless I come across some. |

No one’s pressured me into doing drugs. They ask, I say no, and that’s the end of it. It’s more for them anyways. |

The kids across the hall from me would smoke pot everyday. They would do it in their rooms, on the balcony, or take a ride in their car. They never got caught. |
