Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is a huge issue on campus, and most students and faculty can agree that the parking situation needs an improvement. There is an abundance of cars and a shortage of parking spaces. Every year, the parking and traffic team devises a new plan to try and improve matters, and every year they seem to fail miserably. The high cost of parking should guarantee students a spot, but that doesn’t always happen, mostly because everyone is allowed to have a car on campus, including freshmen.

Commuter lots are on the outskirts of campus, leaving students with long walks to class. There is a campus shuttle system, but the shuttles are either late or fill up quickly. Staff and residence lots are in better locations than commuter lots. If you are parked illegally, you will get a warning, and the next time, you'll get towed. Inclement weather and the fact that campus is one large hill does not make walking to class from remote parking spots any better. However, when the weather is nice, walking around campus can be nice and refreshing. New England can be very beautiful, especially in the fall, so long walks to class are not always a bad thing. Parking is easily the biggest issue on campus, especially for the large amount of commuting students.

Parking Spaces

I think that parking on my campus is fine. Other students complain about the distance from class and buildings but that is because our culture is accustomed to pulling right up to a building and going in. They have become lazy and unrealistic about walking. I personally enjoy walking around and there is beauty to find when one does so. So overall parking is fine and there is plenty of spaces and there are even buses that run all day for those who do not enjoy walking.

Too Expensive for a Resident Student

The cost of a freshman resident parking pass for the year is too expensive when considered with the costs of tuition, room and board, and etc. I need one for the next semester and it apparently does not decrease in cost even though I only need it half the time it usually is priced for. The towing fee is too much too.

Parking Not Bad

Getting a great parking spot takes some work and some time but if you park down at the lower lot, you can get some exercise or just take the bus

After your application is processed and approved, the parking permit will be mailed within two to four days.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot:
The best parking spaces go quickly, so students who arrive to campus early fill them up. Try the Fine Arts Parking Lot at the top of campus first, but if that’s full, head down to the giant Flagg Road Lot.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here!
The Fine Arts Lot fills up very quickly in the morning, but spots open up in the afternoon. There is a church parking lot at the top off campus, but there is hardly ever an open spot.
