Best Places to Find a Spot The best parking spaces go quickly, so students who arrive to campus early fill them up. Try the Fine Arts Parking Lot at the top of campus first, but if that's full, head down to the giant Flagg Road Lot.
Good Luck Getting a Spot Here The Fine Arts Lot fills up very quickly in the morning, but spots open up in the afternoon. There is a church parking lot at the top off campus, but there is hardly ever an open spot.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is a huge issue on campus, and most students and faculty can agree that the parking situation needs an improvement. There is an abundance of cars and a shortage of parking spaces. Every year, the parking and traffic team devises a new plan to try and improve matters, and every year they seem to fail miserably. The high cost of parking should guarantee students a spot, but that doesn’t always happen, mostly because everyone is allowed to have a car on campus, including freshmen.

Commuter lots are on the outskirts of campus, leaving students with long walks to class. There is a campus shuttle system, but the shuttles are either late or fill up quickly. Staff and residence lots are in better locations than commuter lots. If you are parked illegally, you will get a warning, and the next time, you'll get towed. Inclement weather and the fact that campus is one large hill does not make walking to class from remote parking spots any better. However, when the weather is nice, walking around campus can be nice and refreshing. New England can be very beautiful, especially in the fall, so long walks to class are not always a bad thing. Parking is easily the biggest issue on campus, especially for the large amount of commuting students.

Parking at University of Rhode Island

If you're a commuter, parking in the morning is AWFUL. You either have parking on the very top of campus, or at the very bottom. The top parking lot is near all of the classes, and there are NEVER any spots open if you get there when everyone else does (around 9 or 10 am). If you park at the bottom, you either have to walk up, or wait for the bus (which is never on time). If you live on campus, parking is easier and somewhat near dorms.

Pricy and Not Convienient

Parking for commuters cost over $130 an academic year, so if you enroll in the spring semester you have to pay the full price and it expires in August. Parking is no where near the academic building for the most part, it requires at least a 15 min walk. There are shuttles, but I hardly ever see them and find it easier just to walk.
