Transportation

Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town Having a car is essential to most students. Since URI is in a rural area, most students need to travel a couple of miles to encounter other forms of civilization. Most students usually get rides from friends if they don't have their own car.
Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • A cab ride to the airport costs around $65.
  • Airport Taxi and Limousine Service (401) 737-2868
  • Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) (401) 781-9400

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although transportation is important at URI, public services are not that popular. Most students have a car on campus or know someone with one. URI is in a rural setting, so taking a bus to get around town is not a common thing. URI is surrounded by suburban communities, so taking taxis, buses, or trains are not a necessity and are not always available. Public transportation for everyday use is foreign to most students. Borrowing a friend’s car or begging for rides is much more common than paying bus fare.

People who live far away do have options. T.F. Green airport is close by, and the train station is practically across the street from campus. There are ways to get out of town—you just have to know where to look.

Long Distance Transportation

The school allows you to have a car on campus but it is not cheap. the only other means of leaving campus is the RIPTA buses and they are not reliable, they never arrive on time and some times come up to 20 minutes early.

Hit by RIPTA, Free Tuition!

At URI there are many shuttles that go around campus. For some reason they do not have a set schedule therefore they can be hard to catch. They also have buses that go off campus to many places. Those schedules are usually on time and go almost any where you need to go.

Buses Kind of Suck

RIPTA is all over this campus and we have shuttle buses, but to get to and from the campus is hard. It's a long trip and there isn't a line that goes directly to and from URI
