Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The weather changes very often in Rhode Island, which sometimes can cause a hassle. The sunny days are beautiful, but the wind, rain, and snow make the weather a bit unpleasant from November to April. The good thing about being in Rhode Island and New England is that you get a chance to experience all four seasons. Even though students don’t spend much time here in the summer, they still get the opportunity to experience it through occasional heat waves in the fall and spring.

URI is about 10 minutes from the beach, and most students who live off campus are within spitting distance from the ocean. When the weather is nice, you can always find people making their way to the beach to hang out, go surfing, or sun themselves. Many prefer the warmer months simply because the ocean is so close. Students are accustomed to making the most of nice days because when the weather gets bad, staying inside is the smart play.

Rain

When it is raining on campus, which is usually 1-2 days a week it is very difficult to get around campus. I do not enjoy the rainy weather and I have not experienced snow on campus yet

URI WILL Rain on Your Parade.

RAIN. RAIN. RAIN. I come from Rhode Island and I have no idea why the URI campus have so much freakin' rain. Bring rain boots and a rain jacket, or you're screwed.

You may also want to bring a canoe, yes, it gets THAT bad sometimes.

New England Weather

Since it's New England, the weather varies but the extremes of summer and winter aren't that bad.
