Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Freshmen are required to live on campus, which is good because it requires them to interact with other students and helps them develop relationships. After freshman year, it is possible to move off campus, but few students move off campus since on-campus housing is so convenient.

Most of the dorms are located within a five minute walk of class. Rooms tend to be small, although there are huge rooms in South Court and Robins Hall. Gray Court houses most of the freshman guys. If students stay on campus for three years, they have the opportunity to live in the UFAs their senior year (junior year for women). The social scene during the week focuses on the UFAs—apartment parties are always fun. UFAs also have their own kitchens and allow students to avoid D-Hall. Overall, housing on campus is adequate but nothing special. The UFAs are the main redeeming factor, but the segregation of male and female students is a definite blemish.

Freshmen Dorms

There are 2 girls dorms: Moore and Loro. They both have good and bad things about them. Moore is close to the gym, academic buildings and all of the freshman boys' dorms. Loro is newer, has an elevator (which comes in handy when moving in) but is on the other side of campus. It is close to the dining hall and the apartments (where the upperclassmen live and where many parties are). The boys dorms are Marsh, Dennis and Wood. Basically Marsh is the party dorm while the other two are just for people to sleep. If you're a boy, you're gonna wanna live in Marsh.

Obviously some rooms are bigger than others but compared to other college dorms, ours are pretty decent. I honestly don't have any complaints about my living arangements this year.

Campus Housing Quality

After hearing from various friends at other colleges, one thing that I cannot complain about at the University of Richmond is the housing quality. Dorms are generally clean, on the larger side, and well taken care of. The large number of alcoholics and uneducated individuals that destroy the dorm throughout the year are an entirely different story and often make residential life irritating and and expensive (dorm damage is divided up and paid by the entire dormitory.)

Freshman

As a freshman you are assigned possibly the worst places to live. Everything is dorm style ie communal bathroom, laundry, no kitchens. The dorms are kept clean as are the bathrooms. Best freshman girl dorms are Lora Robins. Best dorms overall is Lakeview and the Forest Apartments.
