Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

You won’t get away with anything at UR. With a real police force in addition to security officers, every part of campus is closely watched. The police take their jobs seriously and do a great job of keeping the campus safe. They conduct sobriety checkpoints to catch drunk drivers and will stop and question any person who looks like they might have had too much to drink. If you get caught by them, you don’t just get a citation—you go to Richmond City Jail. It’s not cool.

RAs can also write a student up for violating the rules. After four write-ups, you will most likely be placed on housing probation and any further infractions will get you kicked off campus. Campus police and RAs do not necessarily walk around looking to write students up for illegal activity. As long as you don’t call attention to yourself, you can party on campus without having to worry about getting in trouble. They are present to make sure that everybody is safe, so be smart about it and you will enjoy yourself.

Be Smart

Cops do not care if you are drunk. They sit outside the apartment parties to make sure no one has open alcohol or gets into a car drunk. RA's are chill as long as your party doesn't disrupt to the whole hall. There are a few hardcore RA's, but there are also one's that will come over and have a Beer. But if you pack your room with 20 kids, you will get written up, and if you get written up enough for throwing dorm parties you can lose housing privileges. The main point is that the University constantly emphasizes keeping the kids that drink safe, not punishing them.

On a side note, don't download music illegally. Every year they catch a few kids and make an example out of them.

Police Force

The police force can crack down but only if students are being stupid: i.e. taking beer in public, public intoxication, passing out outside etc. At least the university police are better than the county police who will take you to jail if you are caught or at least issue you a citation.
