One of the best and worst parts about UR is that it is full of beautiful people. Don’t worry—there are also a lot of average ones. There does seem to be an exceptionally large number of hot girls and guys. There are more girls than guys, but the difference is negligible and doesn’t exactly make for easy pickings. Even though there are lots of attractive people, there is still a good deal of competition for the most attractive ones. If you are average looking, don’t worry, chances are you will do just fine for yourself. The bad part is that students are very concerned with appearance—maybe too much so. It is also very easy to get a reputation because the school is small enough that word will get around if a person hooks up a lot with different people.
The people at UR are more attractive than at any other school, but the problem is that the attractive people usually aren’t the coolest or the nicest. There is a lot of eye-candy here. However, if you want a relationship, the average girls are usually much cooler than the drop dead gorgeous ones. Same goes for the guys, I suppose.

A couple of years ago, UR finally integrated housing so that men and women could live near one another. Before that it was incredibly hard for the men, who lived on one side of the lake, to interact with the women, who lived on the other side. Students are fairly outgoing and don't just socialize within the groups or organizations to which they belong. Obviously, there are shy people here, as well, but even they can join one of the University's many organizations and get to meet people.
Relationships dominate the upperclassmen scene while the underclassmen prefer just hooking up. It seems like all the students get it out of their system by the end of their sophomore year and settle down in relationships.
Fraternity parties are the main way that people meet one another, not necessarily at the Row, which is too loud and crowded, but at the house parties. On-campus apartment parties are great, too. Guys and girls build up their liquid courage, and go talk to that person that they've had their eye on. Since the school is so small, chances are that you know someone who knows someone who knows the girl you want to meet. Mutual friends are responsible for starting a lot of relationships. It is also possible to meet people in class or at the library, which is more of a place to hang out than a place to study. The Row works if you are a good dancer or real hot, but unfortunately, not too many people fall into these categories.
The dress code could be summed in one word: preppy. While there are different varieties at UR, most land along the preppy spectrum in some capacity. If you shop at J. Crew, you’ll be safe to blend in well. Rainbow sandals, Lilly Pulitzer, polo shirts, sun dresses, and Sperry boat shoes are common among the UR dress code.
