Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Richmond has a wide selection of great restaurants, most of them located near campus on Broad Street. You can find any fast food chain you want on Broad, and there is a McDonald’s on every block. Students can always be found at Waffle House in the wee hours of the morning enjoying a meal after a night of partying or studying. There are also plenty of Outback Steak Houses, Applebee’s, Olive Gardens and those types of restaurants on Broad. The best restaurants are located a bit farther away (on Cary Street), but are definitely worth the drive. These establishments, like Nacho Mama’s and Mary Angela’s, are smaller and more intimate than the chain restaurants. Few of the restaurants offer a student special, which is unfortunate, but the prices at most of them are reasonable enough.

The best thing about off-campus dining is Ukrop’s. Located right next to school, Ukrop’s is the number one place where students go for a meal. The restaurant is located within a grocery store and serves a huge variety of dishes. The best choice is probably a panini, an Italian sandwich which is stuffed with meat, cheese, and vegetables and grilled to perfection. Ukrop’s functions almost like a second dining hall for students and is very reasonably priced.

Local Restaurants

A lot of really good, small-town restaurants in the area. Most have good food but are a little pricey.

Food in RVA (Excuse Me While I Drool)

Sticky Rice, Carytown Burger, Bottom's Up Pizza, Galaxy Diner, Bogart's...the list goes on. The food in the city is AMAZING. You just have to be willing to leave the bubble to get it.

The food on campus is so much better than off campus. Honestly some of my old teachers are graduates of Richmond and come back almost once a week just for the food
