Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking on campus is awful, which is unfortunate because a car is almost a necessity. There are a few large lots that are open to everyone and always have space in them (X lot and C lot), but these lots are not convenient. It is not uncommon to receive four or five parking tickets a semester because the meter maids are extremely vigilant and will usually catch you, even if you leave your car outside the Tyler Haynes Commons and run inside to grab something from the bookstore. Another problem is overnight parking since, although you are allowed to park anywhere after 7 p.m., you have to move back to your assigned lot before 7 a.m. If you drive to the apartments and want to leave your car there overnight, you will get a ticket.

If you don’t have a set of wheels, your best bet is to make friends with someone who has a car. You are going to need it at some point to go to the store, out to eat, or if you don’t feel like walking across campus in bad weather. Just don’t get a ticket or else you might not be able to use the car anymore.

Decent Parking

Parking is relatively OK, but depending on which lot you park in, you may have to constantly move your car during sporting events.

Facts

Getting a Parking Permit

Upperclassmen get the first pick of what lot they want to park in. Some lots are smaller than others and are more coveted (K lot and R lot). Freshmen on the Richmond College side of the lake will receive a FX lot sticker, which means they can park in X lot, the biggest lot, but have to move their car for basketball games or other Robins Center functions. Commuter students will receive a C lot sticker and can park in one of several lots located throughout campus.
