College Prowler Take
The gym is one of the favorite, and most highly-praised, facilities on campus. It was completely overhauled a few years ago, and now it sparkles with two levels of machines and brand new locker areas, as well as all the other workout amenities. The library, too, is billed as one of the nicest buildings on campus, almost nice enough to make studying a pleasant experience. Combined with the stately academic buildings and red-brick dorms, UR is an aesthetically-pleasing place to live. There aren’t many negatives about most of the facilities at UR. The buildings are functional and eye-pleasing, and large lecture halls manage to fit, self-contained, into the buildings. The student union, however, is oddly constructed in the contemporary IM Pei-designed style of glass and weird angles, and thus not at all practical. It does not really do the job of uniting the students as much as one would see at other schools. People hang out in the coffee shop, but other than meetings, not many student-initiated activities go on there. Perhaps it’s the uninviting design of the interior or the lack of lounges and comfortable areas. Whichever the case, the student union falls short of its potential. As the one weakness in a collection of otherwise first-rate facilities, though, UR averages out pretty well.

The student center is a little the worse for wear, but it’s improving. The athletic facility has been renovated really recently and is really nice. The lab computers are all new within the last year or so. |

The student facilities in general are nice for students. The student union, Wilson Commons, recently got a facelift with new furniture in virtually every section. The athletic center was just renovated a few years ago, with all new machines and equipment. |

There is no center of student life, which is kind of annoying, but the facilities are otherwise pretty nice. The gym is great, the classrooms are clean and comfortable, the dining areas are clean, and the library is in a class of its own. The dorms can get dirty and sometimes the bathrooms don’t work perfectly, but otherwise, everything on campus is in pretty good shape. |

The athletic center is busy, but it’s generally very well maintained. Computers are updated and clean. Student centers can range from grubby to feeling as if you should be wearing a formal dress. The aesthetics are gorgeous and can really contribute to a feeling of academia. |

I think the facilities are really good. The library is awesome. I don’t know if we really have a student center. They tell you that everyone hangs out in Wilson Commons, but that’s not true; you could go there to hang out and go to the Pit or the coffee shop, but that’s about it. The athletic facilities are good. I love the gym. It has just about every machine you could think of and is very clean. The stadium is nice, as well as the pool, the track, and the B-ball courts. |
