Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Students are enamored with the school and overlook its faults—they are faults common to many universities and are easily balanced out by its many excellent qualities. The strong suits of academics and atmosphere make UR a perfect fit for a lot of people. Some stumble into the school by chance and end up loving it, never imagining themselves anywhere else. Others, especially locals, know of UR’s reputation and fully planned on enrolling. All agree, though, that the environment and the people are all one could ask for in a college.

Even if it takes a while to adjust and find your niche, once you do, you will easily fall in love with the school. Beyond the food and small inconveniences, UR comes out ahead for student approval. The student body as a whole is intelligent and ambitious, and the faculty are talented and welcoming. You will not find acts of sabotage or students scratching at each other’s throats to get a better grade than someone else. UR students are independent and capable; the only competition is against yourself. You will learn things and make friendships that will last a lifetime. Rochester itself also provides an interesting melting pot, and if you look, you will never run out of places to go or things to do. It’s not Boston or New York City, but it has its high points. The fall colors, that upstate accent, and the classic food joints will become endearing
once it is a part of your life. The weather can get you down, and the classes may seem unending and tough, but if you take a step back, you’ll realize you’re glad to go to UR and it has become home.

Great! Get back what you put in.

Like most colleges, you're going to get out what you put in. U of R provides a vast amount of opportunities from academics to meeting extremely interesting people. All the professors really know their stuff, they prepare you for the real world. It's a lot of hard work but the students create a collegiate and friendly community. Our sport teams aren't the greatest, the parking can suck (for those with a car) but the food and weather isn't as bad as it's made out to be. There's a lot of diversity on campus, everyone can find their own niche. The campus is beautiful, and there's always a frat party on the weekend available if you want. And it's right next to Rochester. What more could you ask for? U of R is a great place to be.

A Good Place to Be

University of Rochester is a good place to be. It's very diverse and people are so friendly. There was once I was lost on campus so I just asked the first person I have seen to direct me. And the person literally took his phone out, search the campus map and told me where to go. To me, that was wonderful. Rochester students are just friendly.
