Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

How quickly can four years go by? Come to USD, and you’ll soon find out. As students prepare to graduate, they tend to dread leaving the idyllic world of USD for the “real world” of interviews, jobs and bills, and total responsibility. As freshmen, students come in and can have difficulties balancing schoolwork with the fun aspects of the city. They complain about the strictness or the spotty network connection or the walk across campus that takes forever when you’re running late. They dread the gossip that can dominate campus, especially on Monday mornings after a party on Saturday, when they might be still crying over the boy or girl who dumped them. But as seniors and alumni, they’re filled with nostalgia for the caring, supportive atmosphere of USD. They long for the meals they used to skip from the Student Life Pavilion. They wonder where life took the president of Club X or Team Y. They miss the professors who pushed, helped, and watched them succeed.

The majority of students who graduates from USD can’t imagine having gone anywhere else. USD strives to shape balanced, well-rounded individuals. The University partners with the city of San Diego to do just that. Students learn more than meiosis, business strategies, or how to analyze poetry; they learn the professional and social skills necessary to find a job after graduation, leaving with networking abilities, professional acquaintances, and lifelong friends. But more than anything, they graduate with fond memories of their college experience that will last a lifetime.

Off-Campus Housing at University of San Diego

It's EXPENSIVE

San Diego has some of the highest living expenses so it's no wonder that living off campus can be VERY expensive. You can find some reasonably priced apartments but you get what you pay for. The apartments closets to campus are some of the most expensive. New condos are renting starting this summer across the street from campus but are very expensive. Yes, they do come with many amenities but at a price. If price is not an option then you will find something you like rather quickly.

Good for Incoming Freshman but Limited for Upper Class

If you come from a middle to upper class family expect to receive limited financial aid. However, if you are tops in your high school class, there are some academic scholarships you may be eligible for as well as community service scholarships. There are also scholarship opportunities for business and engineering majors.

Many Students Have Cars

Most students have cars, at least by their soph or jr year. There is a shuttle on campus to get you where you need to go for classes. A car makes it easier to get to most places off campus. The number of students with cars does create parking issues on campus even with the addition of parking structures.
