Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Four years at USD will fly by quickly, and toward the end, many students find themselves dreading leaving the leisurely world of USD to go out into the “real world.” All universities have their ups and downs, but USD definitely has more ups. When you ask USD students, most will say they love almost everything about the University, except for a few minor things, like strictness. Professors here go out of their way to help students succeed, and the small campus makes networking and forming relationships easier—by the time you graduate, you will have close relationships with faculty and other students. Many look back on their years at USD and feel nostalgic for the laid-back lifestyle they once had, and when reality hits, it’s easy to wish you were back at USD, spending every weekend at the beach.

Life in San Diego is unlike living in other cities, and some freshmen may have a hard time adjusting at first. Everything is slower and more laid-back here, and you need to be able to balance serious schoolwork with the fun aspects of the city. San Diego can be a definite distraction! Another complaint is that people on campus can be "cliquey," so it can be hard to break into established friend groups, but once you get a close group of friends of your own, you will form so many great memories. And when you tell your friends from back home that you can go to the beach in January, they will look at USD—and you—with envy. Overall, few regret their time at USD because it’s the best of both worlds: quality education and a fun city.

Suprising

It's not as bad as other colleges honestly. The fact that there aren't dorm parties, only leaves people the choice of drinking with friends. So a lot of people drink! But drugs aren't that big here.

Simply Put...Gorgeous

It's a one street school, which makes it impossible to get lost. Everything's within a 20 minute walk from one another and that's a plus. There's a place for everything, and clearly our tuition has kept the campus looking amazing.

Diversity at University of San Diego

Not Stating the Obvious

We've ALL heard it, that there's way more white students here than any other race. I'm barely in my second semester, and notice it less and less each day. I'm not denying I didn't worry about it and fear how it'd be for a minority, but for the most part, people here are really kind and here to get a degree and enjoy life. If you let the thoughts of race constantly run through your mind...well yeah it's going to bother you. It's also really clear to see the school is trying their hardest to bring diversity. I know it used to be way worse 4-5 years ago. Regardless, if you're yourself and pick your friends wisely, and of course CONFIDENCE IS KEY, everything's fine.
