Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Not being in a fraternity or sorority is not the end of the world for most USD students. Since there are no houses for Greek life, there is not as much as an emphasis on it. Nearly one quarter of all USD students participate in Greek life, and even more non-affiliates enjoy parts of Greek life. Most students agree that everyone should try rush week since you can meet new people and have fun. The girl's rush week is during the last week of winter break and is a more formal process than the boy's rush week. Their events are held during a week's nights and have off campus events.

A lot of the off campus parties are hosted by fraternities and sororities, but this also leads to many social probations. This can be a problem when a student has to pay a couple hundred dollars each semester, but can't formally participate in any social events. Greek life is a way to form lifetime bonds and many can see it as being "cliquey." Each fraternity and sorority has their own reputation, and although on the surface everything seems peaceful, there are often rivalries. Some people can take Greek life way too seriously, but for others, it's just a way to make new friends and have better parties.

Not affiliated, but a lot of people are involved. Not the same as other schools because they don't have houses, but they are still pretty exclusive.

Almost Everyone Is in Greek Life

Greek life's presence is very popular on campus. The only student organization that can fill a space for an event. Not a huge deal if you're not in one. We don't have Greek housing so everyone is friends.

Greeks Are Okay.

A large portion of the student body participates in greek life but the absence of a greek row or houses means that the presence of sororities and fraternities on campus is small. They host little things, but for the most part, they're just clubs.
