Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

USD students are the total package: brains and looks. It's hard to find a more beautiful campus in terms of the location and student population. Guys are typically athletic and spend their free time playing sports and working out. While most guys are pretty good looking, girls find that their egos are way too high and because of the skewed ratio of girls to guys, the boys know they are in high demand.

Girls always try and look their best. Even in 7:45 a.m. classes, it's hard to find a girl who isn't wearing makeup—this might be because USD is filled with gorgeous girls, and people want to try and stand out. Girls tend to get dressed up for class and wear cute skirts and sandals. At night, short dresses and heels are paired up to make flashy outfits. USD girls get a lot of respect, especially with San Diego State or UCSD guys. Even though USD is a Catholic school, most students are sexually active, but there is a healthy balance between everyone's social and academic lives.

Basically Everyone Is Attractive at This School

It is a great thing to look around at the beautiful campus and see all the beautiful people, but this does pose a problem to someone who would personally love to go to class in sweatpants every now and then. Everyone, especially the girls dress up to go to class. Its good that everyone cares how they look, but can be a little much at times.

Rich

We're pretty preppy/well off, and it's reflected in our skinny, tan girls and cute guys. Everyone is mainly interested in themselves, which has been a big disappointment for me. Maybe I need to meet more people. Points off for lack of diversity.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene at USD is extremely intimate. Everyone knows everyone else, from seniors to freshmen, and when something happens, everyone knows almost immediately. Not only will you know all of your classmates, you will probably know their majors, hometown, best friends from high school, and latest hookup.

Hookups or Relationships?

You have to decide which one you want—and fast—because by the time you make a "relationship decision," your entire dorm is going to be on Instant Messenger relaying the information around campus. In general, things usually start off with hookups, with repeat customers blossoming into relationships. Girls outnumber guys on the USD campus, and residents of Camino/Founders (the single-sex dorms) are famous for pining for a mere sighting of the opposite sex. This can go to the guys' heads, and there is always more than one well-dressed freshman who considers himself a junior Hugh Hefner in training.

Dress Code

During the day, you can get by with shorts, flip-flops, and some cool T-shirts, but when it comes time to impress at parties, dances, or clubs, you better have the sickest gear out there. And don't think you can sneak around with those cheap gas-station sunglasses, either. People will notice, and they will talk. Girls are almost always made up, even when they are dressed down, and while the guys’ wardrobes are more casual, an Abercrombie or Volcom T-shirt is a much more likely choice than that free rag that came with some magazine subscription.
