Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Public Safety (known as "P-Safe") is constantly present on campus, creating a safe environment. The officers are often parked around the dorms or drive around the residential areas, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, to make sure everything is in order. This keeps suspicious people and activities off campus. However, some students say they feel like they are constantly being watched and aren't given enough freedom on weekends. Most P-Safe incidents involve public intoxication, and all incidents are reported in the school newspaper, The Vista. Additionally, when there are incidents of theft on campus, P-Safe will email and post fliers alerting students and faculty, advising them to lock their cars and dorm room windows. Many thefts are crimes of opportunity, so if you keep all of your valuables out of sight and locked up, they should be safe.

The Student Health Center provides most services to students free of charge. The health center staff provides general examinations, immunizations, and other medical services, and you can pay for antibiotics and any other fees with Campus Cash. Because USD is a Catholic school, though, condoms are not available on campus. However, there are convenience stores and pharmacies nearby where birth control is easily accessible.

Extremely Safe Environment

I've never felt in any danger on campus, even at night. Public safety is always around if you need to call for help with a situation. Things do get stolen if you're not careful about keeping them safe but that goes for any campus. Just be smart.

Generally Safe and Secure but Not Perfect!

I generally feel really safe at USD. It is extremely easy to walk from the library back to your dorm at night because generally there is always other students (here and there) walking about as well. The campus does have the blue light safety, and offers that you are allowed to call Public Safety if you feel unsafe. Public Safety really can be your friend or enemy in regards to parking, drinking under age, etc. There are truly not too many people walking about that don't belong there, in other words. There are thefts in the dorm rooms, but if you keep your windows and doors locked, you really will never have a problem.

Pretty Safe

There are some kind of sketchy things that happen around the University of San Diego's campus, but Public Safety is usually around and I feel comfortable walking around campus.
