Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is probably the biggest complaint among students at USD. Permits cost $280 per year or more for students, and are available to anyone, but that money doesn’t guarantee you a parking spot—it just grants you the right to park, should you find a spot. In the mornings, most parking on Main Campus fills up well before 9 a.m. classes start. In residential areas, availability of parking depends on where you live, but generally getting a parking spot close to your room is luck of the draw.

When you purchase a parking permit, there are lots of rules about where you can park and when. For example, residents of Manchester Village can only park on the main floors of the parking complex between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and must have their car moved from the main floors before 6 a.m. Because USD is so safe and almost boring in terms of crime, Public Safety officers devote their work days to enforcing these parking restrictions. If students are caught parking illegally, tickets can get exceedingly expensive.

Parking-Smarking!

Plenty of room for students and guests. Parking is enforced but far more relaxed than other schools.

Permit cost is about $250. Cars are very very good to have if you want to get off campus since campus is located on a hill. Parking is pretty reasonable on campus, but you will get ticketed if you don't have a permit.
