Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is one of the biggest complaints at the University of San Diego. This is a small campus, so consequently, it can’t accommodate a lot of cars. When there’s a big event, like a basketball or football game, traffic cops have to direct cars, and parking is limited, even for students. You never know if you are going to be able to find a parking spot, even out of the way. Commuter students find this to be most difficult and have to get to campus early. There are also carpool spaces and permits available for cars that bring two or more people to campus each day.

Parking permits cost hundreds of dollars per year, and a single parking ticket can cost nearly $100, too. Parking enforcement is strict, and even parking illegally for just five minutes pretty much guarantees you a ticket. The best advice is to get to campus early, avoid driving during big events, and be overly cautious about where you are allowed to park. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Decent

Campus parking itself is not too bad. More centered parking would probably make things easier for a lot of students, but availability overall isn't too bad I have to admit. Price wise it's very similar to those of other campuses so generally it is pricey. Ticketing is pretty ridiculous though! I mean give a person some slack! we don't need you to go around ruining our day everyday. Give us a grace day to park there or at least just a warning ticket. Going to school on top of a hill creates a necessity for a car because that walk up the hill is just not happening! Plus although places are pretty close, its still not close enough to walk to.

Good

The parking is great for guests, but if you live on campus and have a car it is a little inconvenient for some students

CARS ARE NEEDED

It cost 290 for the year and freshman can bring cars and should. It is needed to get around. No way to get around the city with out a car. Parking is difficult during the day.

Getting a Parking Permit

Resident students have different parking permits, rates, and privileges than commuters. There are also different resident permits, depending on which dorm or apartment complex you live in. Motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters have their own designated spots and permits. Carpool permits are also available. Permits can be purchased online at www.sandiego.edu/parking.
