Basically Everyone Is Attractive at This School

It is a great thing to look around at the beautiful campus and see all the beautiful people, but this does pose a problem to someone who would personally love to go to class in sweatpants every now and then. Everyone, especially the girls dress up to go to class. Its good that everyone cares how they look, but can be a little much at times.

High-Tech Computer Labs

There is at least one computer lab in most of the buildings on campus that are accessible through by signing in with your student ID card. You can print from the computer labs as well as from the library (although you have to pay for prints). The network speed is great in computer labs however it can get a bit slow in the dorm rooms. I would recommend having your own laptop and printer.

Lacks Economic Diversity

USD claims to nurture diversity amongst all peoples, and it's true to a degree — those of all faiths and backgrounds are encouraged to attend USD. However, unless they are on a LOT of outside scholarship or financial aid, then most students are of the same fiscal status. We don't call it the University of Spoiled Daughters for nothing ;). That's not to say that there aren't a wide range of people. I have met so many individuals from different walks of life, different religions and countries of origin, and I have developed greatly by getting to know their backgrounds.

Additionally, I wish they would offer more scholarships based on merit and economic means instead of ethnic identity (because I don't find color to be the deserving factor for a scholarship).

Good

The Academics at USD are challenging but manageable. You will not be able to glide through classes like high school, but if you work hard, an A is absolutely achievable. The professors are always available to talk to, and very helpful

Suprising Amount of Help

I got 2 scholarships which covered my entire tuition and a bit of financial aid as well. Basically I'm at this school with a full ride. Most people I know have a scholarship of some kinds. Many have gotten full rides. I know this school is expensive, but you'd be surprised with how much they will help you. And I'm not a crazy world renowned cello player or amazing athlete. Just an average hardworking student.

A Ton to Do If You Are 21

If you aren't 21 then there really isn't much to do in San Diego. The 18 and up clubs are sketch and all anyone really does on the weekend is go to Mission Beach which can get really boring.

SO Good!

The food at USD is delicious! However, it is very expensive. The meal plan kind of rips freshman off, but after freshman year you can choose whatever meal plan you want. There are many options and I love eating on campus.

Personal

I love USD because the class sizes are small, so the teachers are able to focus more personally on our own work. Almost all of my teachers know my name, and it creates a very comfortable environment.

University of San Diego - We Live, Where You Vacation...

USD is rated among the top most beautiful campuses in the country. It's Spanish-influenced architectural design gives the campus an overall warm and peaceful feeling helped, of course, by the tropical weather of Sunny San Diego. We have 2 main athletic centers on campus, both weight set and treadmill equipted. The bigger of the two athletic centers, contains a pool, basketball/volleyball courts, as well as rooms for yoga and dance. There are 2 main libraries on campus, the law library and Shiley library. Both containing ample room for very quiet studying and louder group sessions. Furthermore, the campus activities keep the entire campus lit with socialization all throughout the week due to the incredible events put on by student orgs. Some of the events include, movie nights on a big screen, dances, sport games, and bar-b-q's.Overall, USD is a fine choice for any student to call home for 4 years.

Lots to Do

San Diego has everything from great places to eat to great outdoor activities. If you like the beach then you'll love it here, because you can visit a number of different beaches nearby. A great location if you like surfing. Also, Las Vegas is only a few hours drive away.

Residential Life

I had an excellent experience living on campus. The dorms were comfortable, clean, functioning, and socially idea. I live in the "valley" which sort of brings all the kids in my area together. The RA's are always organizing new activities and games so everyone gets to know eachother. Definitely a great atmosphere. Love it.

It's all about who you know. It's nearly impossible to get into a bar or club with a fake I.D.. Most of the parties are on Mission Beach as house parties so if you don't know anyone then you're pretty much screwed. There are rarely any dorm parties because the RA's bust them up in a heartbeat.

Manageable

The scholarships and financial aid is all frustrating at first, but it becomes easier after time. Your FASA is the most important financial aid you can do then focus on some outside scholarships. If it wasn't for scholarships, I wouldn't be able to afford this school. So its definitely possible to get scholarships.

The school spirit may not be there at all times but the athletic department is excellent. All teams have done very well in the past, with most going to NCAA tournaments. The facilities are impeccable, the staff motivating and highly qualified - for all sports.

Great professors

All of my professors have worked in or still work in the field they teach. They make an effort to be available to students through office hours and are responsive to emails. The small class sizes encourage students to have a discussion with the teacher (unless the class is boring in which case expect lecturing.) Some of my professors have modified the syllabus several times because we took more time on a topic than planned, because students were asking questions and were interested rather than because the prof speaking too much as is the case at other schools

World View

Although USD seems like a bubble, and has been called university of spoiled daughters, there is so much taking place that pertains to the outside world and global issues. The Institute of Peace and Justice is a location where social justice and human rights are advocated for and there are many clubs and organizations involving issues outside of CA and even the USA.
