Guys and Girls

USD has a reputation of an extremely attractive and well put together student body that will not disappoint. No one will judge you for bumming it to class in sweats occasionally, but the weather's always nice and people typically get dressed for all classes. Off-campus parties are not as hookup oriented as most schools so that's nice.

The most delicious food from a cafeteria, so I have heard. Many of my friends from other Colleges have come to have lunch with me on their breaks from school and they are mesmerized by the quality and choice of food at the SLP.

Connect With People from All Walks of Life

The ladies and gentlemen at the University of San Diego are extremely laid back and easy going. We range from surfers to country folks to downtown city kids. The diversity of interests makes it possible to connect with people from all walks of life. Students usually dress casually to class; sometimes consisting of board shorts and a tank top. The common interests include going to the beach, playing sports on campus, and hanging out with friends. As I mentioned before, the students here are so easy to get along with that the social life is upbeat and exciting. Relationships developed at this school certainly seem like ones that will be built for a lifetime. For anyone looking for great weather, a productive environment, friendly students, and great school life; University of San Diego definitely would be the school for them.

Not Present on Campus, but It Is There!

Overall, you do hear about wild nights down at the beach from freshmen to seniors and alcohol does play a part on this campus, but it is very easy to choose whether you get involved in the nightlife scene. Generally there are no parties on campus, so you must pay for a taxi or have a friend drive you around.

San Diego has lots to offer and you can start partying from week one really. All the parties take place in Mission Beach for USD/SDSU kids, whereas UCSD kids are in Pacific Beach. Underage drinking does occur, alcohol is present, but not everyone on campus drinks, and people who don't drink do have a way of finding other people who don't drink. People over 21 do head over to the Gaslamp District or downtown.

MOST BEAUTIFUL

University of San Diego does have some of the best looking Guys and Girls in the nation. That is what happens when you throw a bunch of rich, white kids together. Some of the more attractive ones can be stuck up and stupid but in general there are just a lot of well rounded, attractive people running around the USD campus. Some other campuses may have a good amount of attractive people but for USD almost everyone is decent looking and even though our school is somewhat small we still are the most beautiful.

USD=BEST ACADEMICS

I am very satisfied with my education so far. All the teachers are there to help and with small class sizes you get the attention you need. In my opinion, the academics are harder than other big, public schools but that is what makes University of San Diego so great. The College of Arts and Science as well as the Business School have great programs with lots of majors/minors to chose from.

The Utopia of Greek Life

Greek life at USD is really ideal in my opinion. It certainly doesn't dominate the campus and there isn't Greek housing, but the Greek life here is really all about the community, the standards they are held to, and the community service they provide. There aren't many instances of out-of-control parties or crazy initiation rituals. They are all about developing the best men and women and having that brotherhood or sisterhood and providing a good foundation for when we move on from college.

Great Facilities!

We have two gyms on campus, a few great places to just hangout and chill. The only complaint I have is that the libraries are kind of a hike from where I live, but I guess at that point, I"m just being picky.

Great for the 21 and Older

Parties are held down at the beach, on off campus housing. They frequently get rolled by the police, however, because all the houses are really close together, and the off campus housing puts you next to families living in SD. As for the bars, they are great. Beachcomber, Sandbar, and Coaster are great for Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach has blocks and blocks of bars...great for a pub crawl.

Basically Everyone Is Attractive at This School

It is a great thing to look around at the beautiful campus and see all the beautiful people, but this does pose a problem to someone who would personally love to go to class in sweatpants every now and then. Everyone, especially the girls dress up to go to class. Its good that everyone cares how they look, but can be a little much at times.

High-Tech Computer Labs

There is at least one computer lab in most of the buildings on campus that are accessible through by signing in with your student ID card. You can print from the computer labs as well as from the library (although you have to pay for prints). The network speed is great in computer labs however it can get a bit slow in the dorm rooms. I would recommend having your own laptop and printer.

Lacks Economic Diversity

USD claims to nurture diversity amongst all peoples, and it's true to a degree — those of all faiths and backgrounds are encouraged to attend USD. However, unless they are on a LOT of outside scholarship or financial aid, then most students are of the same fiscal status. We don't call it the University of Spoiled Daughters for nothing ;). That's not to say that there aren't a wide range of people. I have met so many individuals from different walks of life, different religions and countries of origin, and I have developed greatly by getting to know their backgrounds.

Additionally, I wish they would offer more scholarships based on merit and economic means instead of ethnic identity (because I don't find color to be the deserving factor for a scholarship).

A Kick in the Butt, Be Sure You Want It Badly

Engineering at USD is a BS/BA program, meaning you have to complete a curriculum of 'arts' courses in addition to every engineering/science/math course along the way. It makes for a heavy courseload every semester (17-18 units) for 4 1/2 years. But supposedly the BS/BA is worth something extra special compared to a BS.

Every class I have had was a straight lecture, which is much different from high school discussion-based classes. That is how most math and science courses are: come in, sit down, take notes, maybe participate in solving a certain problem, more notes, then go home and do homework for the class or study for the tests/quizzes. Faculty have office hours and they do help to go to, most are nice enough to make exceptions for the unlucky students who have classes during every office hours time or who just want extra individual attention.

USD has an organization for every type of engineering, and covers a lot of internship opportunities.

Strong school for political science/ pre-aw majors. I have only taken one political science course but I found it very informative and my knowledge of politics and government has certainly increased. I look forward to taking more political science classes here at USD!

Good

The Academics at USD are challenging but manageable. You will not be able to glide through classes like high school, but if you work hard, an A is absolutely achievable. The professors are always available to talk to, and very helpful

Suprising Amount of Help

I got 2 scholarships which covered my entire tuition and a bit of financial aid as well. Basically I'm at this school with a full ride. Most people I know have a scholarship of some kinds. Many have gotten full rides. I know this school is expensive, but you'd be surprised with how much they will help you. And I'm not a crazy world renowned cello player or amazing athlete. Just an average hardworking student.

A Ton to Do If You Are 21

If you aren't 21 then there really isn't much to do in San Diego. The 18 and up clubs are sketch and all anyone really does on the weekend is go to Mission Beach which can get really boring.

The food at USD is delicious! However, it is very expensive. The meal plan kind of rips freshman off, but after freshman year you can choose whatever meal plan you want. There are many options and I love eating on campus.
