College Prowler Take

Students can’t help but laugh when you bring up the weather. Often, the love they show the San Diego climate comes with a story about a friend in Wisconsin or Michigan who actually has to wear winter clothes. San Diego is, of course, famous for its spectacular mild weather, and students love it. Most students find that sandals and shorts will get you comfortably through the majority of your days. Sometimes a long sleeve T-shirt is all you’ll need to warm up. San Diego weather treats human beings like a best friend. In fact, some students find the weather too good. It sometimes makes it difficult to go to class, and some students actually miss the change in seasons.

Be prepared to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 degrees most of your time here. Most people own a wide variety of shorts, T-shirts, and sandals. January is an especially spectacular month where the sun seems to shine every day, mocking everyone else in the country. June can actually be one of the worst months, with colder, foggy mornings, and even one or two unpleasant muggy days. You will need a sweater for the cool air at night, even during the early summer. Some people also find that the temperature is always right between too hot and too cold, and they are always adding or removing a sweatshirt. When it rains in San Diego, usually in the late fall or spring, it is a major event, and it usually leads off the local news broadcast. Do not be surprised to see “Storm Watch” on the local news, only to be greeted by one-quarter of an inch of rain the next day.

Oh my God, the weather is beautiful! In San Diego you can’t complain at all about the weather. Everyone, for the most part, has a very relaxed look about them—sweats for morning classes and bathing suits under tank tops and jean skirts in the afternoon.

It is beautiful most of the time. It is hot August through September and/or October, and chilly in the winter, but you don’t need heavy clothes. It only rains a few times a year.

The weather is pretty consistent. You don’t need real warm clothes. Many times there is wind, so having many light sweaters is good.

Weather in SD? It’s perfect! Leave your jackets at home—I don’t own one. T-shirts, some cool cargo or khaki shorts, and flip-flops will be all you need, for the most part.
